Publisher's summary

The feds want Miami bookmaker Harry Arno to squeal on his wiseguy boss. So they're putting word out on the street that Arno's skimming profits from "Jimmy Cap" Capotorto - which he is, but everybody does it. He was planning to retire to Italy someday anyway, so Harry figures now's a good time to get lost.

U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens knows Harry's tricky - the bookie ditched him once in an airport while in the marshal's custody - but not careful. So Raylan's determined to find the fugitive's Italian hideaway before a cold-blooded Sicilian "Zip" does and whacks Arno for fun. After all, it's a "pride thing"...and it might even put Raylan in good stead with Harry's sexy ex-stripper girlfriend Joyce.

Enjoyed the story

It was nice to hear the original character of Raylan Givens. I like the original Justified series on TV. Probably will listen to all the other Raylan Givens stories.

Meh

I am a big Raylan and Leonard fan. But this novel is not his best. The story wears thin even more than the dated language.

You should take this one out for a spin

If you've seen the show Justified, you know who Raylan Givens is, but this book is great even if you haven't seen it.

The story is compelling from page one, and the characters are so well crafted you feel like you've known them for years.

The performance is also wonderful and worth mentioning - so much so that I'm a little disappointed the next book in the series is read by someone else. But here's hoping that one is as good as this one.

8 hour book, read in 5

The story and dialogue is good, but the reader sounds like he swallowed a handful of pep pills and tried to get through the book as soon as he could. He reads so quickly that most of the story sounds like one long run on sentence, and completely ignores any grammatical commas or periods. It’s probably an 8 hour book that took 5 hours. Seriously, the guy read this while book in one breath. I had to reduce the speed to keep up

Great Characters...

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Mr. Leonard has the best characters and usually has a story to match with few exceptions.

Which character – as performed by Alexander Adams – was your favorite?

Justified made me a Raylan Givens fan but Harry Arno is so unlikeable you have to love him.

Any additional comments?

I became an Elmore Leonard fan late in the game and Pronto is catch up.

I'm an Elmore Leonard fan! But

Narrator read too quickly & I didn't like Raylan's voice at all or his interpretation of his character. The story was great.

Ezra Pound and Will Kane were fighting

on the South Beach shore ... while drunk bookmakers laughed at them ... and the women, they laughed more.

Best Elmore Leonard ever of those I've known; that's quite a few. This one rocks: the vibe is kind of Karl Hiassen meets High Noon.
