Publisher's summary

The feds want Miami bookmaker Harry Arno to squeal on his wiseguy boss. So they're putting word out on the street that Arno's skimming profits from "Jimmy Cap" Capotorto - which he is, but everybody does it. He was planning to retire to Italy someday anyway, so Harry figures now's a good time to get lost.

U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens knows Harry's tricky - the bookie ditched him once in an airport while in the marshal's custody - but not careful. So Raylan's determined to find the fugitive's Italian hideaway before a cold-blooded Sicilian "Zip" does and whacks Arno for fun. After all, it's a "pride thing"...and it might even put Raylan in good stead with Harry's sexy ex-stripper girlfriend Joyce.

Elmore Leonard Never Fails

Raylan Givens one of his best characters. Book ends where Justified begins. Doc Holliday and Johnny Ringo.

Mafia Story

The writing is excellent, the plot fast-paced, the characters interesting and well-developed. The problem for me is I don’t care for (or about) the protagonist, Harry. Raylen Givens (sp?) is somewhat appealing, as are Joyce and Bob. I even feel sorry for the “punk,” Nicky. I have some sympathy for Harry too, but not enough to care if he lives or dies. Also, while there’s action and tension, I’d like at least a bit of mystery. Maybe I just need to check out the Raylen Givens books by this author. I did like the narrator.

Elmore Leonard means a great story

You'll enjoy this fish out of water novel as our hero, Raylan, US Marshal, a slow talking boy from Kentucky goes to Italy to track down an old nemesis. Raylan deals with Eyetalian crooks, beautiful women and gets it done. Download this novel, or you'll miss out on 6 hours of very entertaining Elmore Leonard fun.

TV series hard to follow

This was an entertaining novel, 1st in the series for me. I'll listen to at least 2 more before make final judgments. Some details about main characters were changed when producing the series.

Excellent TV series (characters, story arcs, and especially the outstanding dialogue) is a very hard act to follow.

Fan of the show and the books

Where does Pronto rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I really enjoy the show and was excited to find out it was based on a book. The writing is great and the story keeps you interested. I did not like the change in narrators in each book but it didn't keep me from listening.

Another classic Elmore Leonard novel.

I find it's always the characters in his novels that are so interesting. I always find myself wishing it wasn't over.
