Publisher's summary

Private Berlin has the extraordinary pace and international sophistication that has powered The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Patterson's number one best seller The Postcard Killers.

In Europe's most dangerous city.

Chris Schneider is a superstar agent at Private Berlin, Germany headquarters for the world's most powerful investigation firm. He keeps his methods secret as he tackles Private's most high-profile cases—and when Chris suddenly disappears, he becomes Private Berlin's most dangerous investigation yet.

An investigator is searching.

Mattie Engel is another top agent at Private Berlin, gorgeous and ruthlessly determined—and she's also Chris's ex. Mattie throws herself headfirst into finding Chris, following leads to the three people Chris was investigating when he vanished: A billionaire suspected of cheating on his wife, a soccer star accused of throwing games, and a nightclub owner with ties to the Russian mob. Any one of them would surely want Chris gone—and one of them is evil enough to want him dead.

And she's after more than the truth.

Mattie's chase takes her into Berlin's most guarded, hidden, and treacherous places, revealing secrets from Chris's past that she'd never dreamed of in the time they were lovers. On the brink of a terrifying discovery, Mattie holds on to her belief in Chris—in the face of a horror that could force all of Europe to the edge of destruction and chaos.

James Patterson has taken the European thriller to a masterful new level with Private Berlin, an adrenaline-charged, spectacularly violent, and sexy novel with unforgettable characters of dark and complex depths. Private Berlin proves why Patterson is truly the world's number one best-selling author.

Wildest ride in many years

Hands down the best story I have read or heard in years. The suspense, joy and tears were flowing in this book. Can't speak highly enough about it 👍

In Line and Intense

This title in the "Private" series is one of the best so far, very intense, and certainly in line with the excellence of the others I have listened to in the series. I can't understand some of the negative reviews, other that being naive to some realities that truly lurk in dark places of civilization.

Exciting if you like scary voices.

I loved the story but I had to skip over the scary man voice. It was too creepy for me. Scared me.

Another Wow

Five books into this series and five great "reads". Can't wait to get on to the next one.

I like January LaVoy but some of her female voice sound like a man. But hey, you get used to it. One of the things I really liked about this was the story took place in Germany and the characters grew up in Germany. But they had had English accents. They could have easily chose a narrator with a German accent but they didn't, thank goodness.

The ending saved this book.

The bad guy was so repulsive that I was going to stop reading. Creepy is too kind a word. Disgusting repulsive even though leaves a very bad taste in one’s mouth.

It Was Ok.

It took me quite awhile to get into this book. It is by no means my favorite book in the Private series thus far, but it was ok.

Trying

I'm trying really hard to follow this series. But the first five or so chapters make me want to stop. I like the guys voice from the first two books. The guy in this book sounded like a wimp. His voice didn't match the character. I'm going to try one more book before I give up.
