Publisher's summary

The police can't help you....

Former Marine helicopter pilot Jack Morgan runs Private, a renowned investigation company with branches around the globe. It is where you go when you need maximum force and maximum discretion. The secrets of the most influential men and women on the planet come to Jack daily - and his staff of investigators uses the world's most advanced forensic tools to make and break their cases.

The press will destroy you....

Jack is already deep into the investigation of a multi-million dollar NFL gambling scandal and the unsolved slayings of 18 schoolgirls when he learns of a horrific murder close to home: his best friend's wife, Jack's former lover, has been killed. It nearly pushes him over the edge. Instead, Jack pushes back and devotes all of Private's resources to tracking down her killer.

Only one place to turn: Private....

But Jack doesn't have to play by the rules. As he closes in on the killer and chooses between revenge and justice, Morgan has to navigate a workplace love affair that threatens to blow the roof off his plans. With a plot that moves at death-defying speeds, Private is James Patterson's sleekest, most exciting thriller ever.

Enjoyable Listen

I picked Private up from Audible.com and I think it was actually free. Since I’ve never read or listened to a James Patterson book, I can’t say how much he contributed to this book, which was co-written with Maxine Paetro. It was an entertaining, but a bit confusing at the beginning. There were far too many mysteries to follow. The plots were all clear by the middle and the end somewhat satisfactorily resolved everything. The characters were straight out of mystery writing 101. I can’t really complain. The narration by Peter Hermann was good. It was an enjoyable audiobook, especially for free.

Good ideas gone too long

Three intertwined plots, each of which would have been fine alone, got stretched into a long and ultimately less satisfactory story.

Just another NCIS

Really this story is nothing new. It reminded me of a blend of NCIS and sometimes mission impossible. It wasn't my kind of book. I also didn't care to have a series of this length. But it was free and I gave it a shot. But the setup allows for the story to literally never end as each case can be a book. Not my thing.

I had a hard time finishing this one

the story was all over the place and a little far-fetched. I almost quit listening to it many times but ended up finishing it. the performance was fine but the story was not. way too many plots not enough details to make the story believable

Awesome

The pace was forward and not caught in neutral like some books. Loved listening to it. Good performance. Worth the money.

Oh Peter!

Peter Herman made this book worth listening to. He did so well with all the different characters and voices. The story was entertaining, although nothing one wouldn't watch on Law and Order. I liked it, and Peter made me enjoy it!

Not bad, but not great

it's a decent story. The performance was good, and was a good fit for this.

I'm not big into detective novels... nor a fan of James Patterson in general. There wasn't anything "wrong" with this book.... but there wasn't anything great about it either. It was just ok.

Great Listen...

I thoroughly enjoyed this story...my first James Patterson book. There was so much going on in this story, but it all seemed to fit and make sense. All stories met a great ending. No loose ends. I enjoyed Patterson's writing style. I'm looking forward to reading more stories...

Quick, Clean and Well Done All Around

James Patterson does what he does, but he does it as well or better than just about anyone in the genre. It's hard to know where Patterson ends and co-author Maxine Paetro begins, but it doesn't really matter. The narration is professional and well produced. It all combines into an entertaining if not particularly memorable detective story.
