Publisher's summary

The police can't help you....

Former Marine helicopter pilot Jack Morgan runs Private, a renowned investigation company with branches around the globe. It is where you go when you need maximum force and maximum discretion. The secrets of the most influential men and women on the planet come to Jack daily - and his staff of investigators uses the world's most advanced forensic tools to make and break their cases.

The press will destroy you....

Jack is already deep into the investigation of a multi-million dollar NFL gambling scandal and the unsolved slayings of 18 schoolgirls when he learns of a horrific murder close to home: his best friend's wife, Jack's former lover, has been killed. It nearly pushes him over the edge. Instead, Jack pushes back and devotes all of Private's resources to tracking down her killer.

Only one place to turn: Private....

But Jack doesn't have to play by the rules. As he closes in on the killer and chooses between revenge and justice, Morgan has to navigate a workplace love affair that threatens to blow the roof off his plans. With a plot that moves at death-defying speeds, Private is James Patterson's sleekest, most exciting thriller ever.

Multiple story lines

I liked that there were multiple mysteries concurrently. The reading was good but they use music for thrill at strange times which us unnecessary and distracting.

Better than I expected

Private by James Patterson and Maxine Paetro is a thriller novel that follows the investigation company Private. Jack Morgan, a former Marine pilot, runs the international firm that founded by his father based out of Los Angeles. Along with very trustworthy colleagues, Morgan solves a variety of cases.

Private follows three specific cases throughout this novel. Morgan's best friend comes to him after discovering his wife, Morgan's former lover, dead in their bed. There has been at least 18 school girls murdered with new ones showing up almost every day. The NFL is in the middle of a multi-million dollar scandal that needs uncovered. With these three big cases, issues personal lives, and an “evil-twin”, will Morgan and his colleagues be able to solve them in time?

I have always avoided James Patterson books because I felt like they would be way overrated. I downloaded Private for free and I am so glad I did. I usually have issues with multiple upon multiple different plots in a story like, but Patterson and Paetro made this work. I was never lost in what was happening in each investigation and they were all plotted out very well. They introduce and escalate each case so that the reader would not get bored. The personal life was also a great addition. They never added too much information in to steer away from the cases, but just enough to really develop a connection to each character.

The characters were developed in a great way throughout the book. Jack Morgan is trying his best to run his Father's company while trying to remember what happened when he during his deployment. Justine Smith is the main detective on the case with the murdered school girls. The way she gets frustrated with not being able to solve the case comes through the pages with you feeling just as frustrated. Private Investigation employees all work very well together and how they rely on each other is demonstrated throughout the book.

I give Private by James Patterson and Maxine Paetro 4 out of 5 stars. This was very well done with the multiple point of views and story plots. They were very successful is developing characters that you can easily relate to and empathize with. Every part of the story was intriguing and kept you wanting more. I highly recommend this book if you enjoy thrillers and mystery novels.

Audio Review
I really enjoyed this audio performance. I thought it was very strong audio and it brought me into the story well. There was no confusion while listening, which is essential in a thriller book. All inflections were done very well and I would recommend this audio.
