Publisher's summary

It was a crime so brutal, it changed the lives of even the most hardened homicide cops. The Haas family murders left a scar on the community nothing can erase, but everyone agrees that convicting the killer, Karl Dahl, is a start. Only Judge Carey Moore seems to be standing in the way. Her ruling that Dahl's prior criminal record is inadmissible raises a public outcry, and puts the judge in grave danger. When an unknown assailant attacks Judge Moore in a parking garage, two of Minneapolis' top cops are called upon to solve the crime and keep the judge from further harm.

Detective Sam Kovac is as hard-boiled as they come, and his wisecracking partner, Nikki Liska, isn't far behind. Neither one wants to be on this case, but when Karl Dahl escapes from custody, everything changes, and a seemingly straightforward case cartwheels out of control. The stakes go even higher when the judge is kidnapped, snatched out of her own bed even as the police sit outside, watching her house. Now Kovac and Liska must navigate through a maze of suspects that includes the stepson of a murder victim, a husband with a secret life, and a rogue cop looking for revenge where the justice system failed. With no time to spare, the detectives are pulled down a strange dark trail of smoke and mirrors, where no one is who they seem and everyone is guilty of Prior Bad Acts.

I couldn't wait to hear more

I wanted to be listening to my ipod every chance I got. This was my first e-book and couldn't get enough. Tami Hoag gets you hooked right from the start.

Awesome storyline! But, read it instead of listening to this version!

I'm a huge fan of Tami Hoag's book, this book lived up to my expectations! Tami masterfully intertwined several characters to keep you guessing who did what right up to the end. I'm half-way through reading all of her suspense/crime novels and fear I'll be done with them all before she publishes another!

With that said, I wish I would have read this book instead of listening to it. The man who read this book did the female voices in a way that almost made them seem comical when it should have been sincere and serious. The way he did the lead, strong Detective Sam Kovacs voice was whimpy, lacked emotion, and was distracting from the true climate in which Hoag meant it to be. I'm hoping he isn't the one reading her other books I've purchased to listen to here.

Hoag at her best

This was a page turner from beginning to end.I couldn't wait until the next chapter and when it ended ,I wanted more. The ending was listened in my car and when the tale twisted once again, I held up traffic because I couldn't believe what transpired. The characters fell into place with each twist and turn. I love a book that holds your suspense and just when (you) think you have it solved , the bottom drops out and you are left with one thought: give me another Tammi Hoag book.
The narrator was excellent and kept the listener glued to every word . Sam and Nikki are great together but with such a supporting cast to fall back on , it can be realized that this is a WINNER !

Lousy narrator

Love the story, but the narrator was so bad. Staccato, staccato and staccato. It was just that terrible.

Great story, bad performance

Being used to David Colacci reading most of Kovac and Liska series , the performance of this narrator is very poor. Otherwise this is Hoag at her best.

Prior Bad Acts

Would you listen to Prior Bad Acts again? Why?

No, I very rarely do with any book.

What did you like best about this story?

The emotional side of Novak that comes out, and the constant twists and turns that this story takes. "Emotional Rollercoaster Ride!"

What about Holter Graham’s performance did you like?

I really wasn't thrilled with this narrator, he didn't take me to a place like her previous narrator did. Where I would forget that a narrator was talking and not Novak, Lisa etc..

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did!!

Any additional comments?

Excellent read, as come to expect from Tami Hoag
