I don't know the answer because Audible doesn't have the unabridged version. But this is lousy. You can tell where bits of the book are gone because suspenseful music takes it's place. GAG! What a disappointment. Maybe Cornwell only had a few good books in her. This is disjointed, airy-fairy, and jumpy. Don't know if that's due to the abridging, but bottom line is don't bother with this one :-(
I was taught that using profanity shows a lack of vocabulary.... I love Patricia Cornwell's work - but the use of vulgar profane language seems to be increasing in her last two works. I found it hard to listen to. Cornwell doesn't have to get down with the lingo to write a great story! I have all her books and always look forward to a new one. It is just disturbing that the language is so foul. It is politically incorrect in the workplace now days and I guess I am just shocked when it is free-flowing. Scarpetta is my hero! She doesn't deserve the disrespect.
I have read most of the books in this series. This was not up to par in my opinion; lots of gory details, but the plot was flat and disjointed. The whole story did not have a completeness, it was like several short stories thrown together around a "bad guy" to fill the publisher's need for a new book.
I wouldn't bother with it in retrospect. There are many, much more well written books of the same genre out.
I did by accident have the abriged version, this could have had some effect.
Over all I still like the series. It just seems to be getting a little complecated and hard to keep up with. The series seems to be focusing more now on the lives of the main characters instead of a good plot. I guess it is starting to remind me of a soap opera with a twist. I'm looking forward to the next in the series, but hope it takes a different turn.
This book was a waste of my time, I had to re-start it 4 times to try and figure out what was happening, still didn't know. To many characters that had no character, she jumps around to much, and you just get confused. I didn't get it. The audible review recommend it, that's why I tried it, I wish I could get my credit back for this book. I usually stick to the same authors, but I went out on a limb, and took a chance. I'll pay more attention to the reviews nextime. don't waste your time with this one. Sorry Ms Cornwell
