    "Deaver strikes again"

This is another Deaver great. The characters are painted in such a way that you know each of them intimately - or do you? A gripping read.

    "Great denouement"
What made the experience of listening to Praying for Sleep the most enjoyable?

it is actually quite a clever story

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

    twist at the end

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It wasn't unputdownable - a bit long winded and didn't keep me on the edge of the seat at all times, although it did have exciting parts

"Ended up being an excellent read"

I have to say that I was initially disappointed by this book. I found the characters more distant and difficult to engage with than usual and some if the writing was somewhat long winded in places - I remember thinking, OK, get on with the story. It picked up a lot more though after and the characters became much more real, then the twists started to come and the book really unfolded. Tha narration was great, just slightly odd when, at the end, the author was announced as "John Deaver"...

    Story
    "A glimpse into madness"
    Any additional comments?

I don't know how the mind of a schizophrenic really works, but Deavers description of Hrubecks thoughts was wholly believable and compelling. Nasty scenes are part of the reality, but overall a very sympathetic portrayal of mental illness. The plot unfolds as a gripping chase to catch the madman combined with waves of revelations about the past: what exactly does Hrubeck want to do? The ending was dramatic.

    Story
"Manhunt chase - didn't engage with the characters"

Interesting end, but I just didn't engage with the characters, and didn't capture my interest. At several points I seriously considered questioned why I was listening to this, and even with an interesting unusual end I haven't changed my view.

    Story
"Typical Deaver plot with twists all the way"
What did you like most about Praying for Sleep?

Strong characters with lots of subplots. There was obviuosly going to be a twist at the end, it was intriguing to try and work it out before you got there ( I did in this case :-) ).

What aspect of Tim Machin’s performance might you have changed?

I felt that in mid chapter when the scenes moved to different locations there wasn't enough of a pause to give you a chance to realise you had moved elsewhere. This led to me feeling a bit confused at times.

    Story
    "Horrid"
Would you try another book written by Jeffery Deaver or narrated by Tim Machin?

    Not at all

Would you ever listen to anything by Jeffery Deaver again?

    No

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Praying for Sleep?

I failed to finish this book despite being on a 12 hour car journey! Once I got to the scene where the mad man killed an animal then masturbated using the blood I switched it off. This book needs a warning! Horrid
