Publisher's summary

Introducing a major new thriller writer—in the vein of Vince Flynn and Brad Thor—and an electrifying character, Dewey Andreas.

A major North American hydroelectric dam is blown up and the largest off-shore oil field in this hemisphere is destroyed in a brutal, coordinated terrorist attack. But there was one factor that the terrorists didn't take into account when they struck the Capitana platform off the coast of Colombia—slaughtering much of the crew and blowing up the platform—and that was the Capitana crew chief Dewey Andreas. Dewey, former Army Ranger and Delta, survives the attack, rescuing as many of his men as possible. But the battle has just begun.

While the intelligence and law enforcement agencies scramble to untangle these events and find the people responsible, the mysterious figure of Alexander Fortuna—an agent embedded into the highest levels of American society and business—sets into play the second stage of these long-planned attacks. The only fly in the ointment is Dewey Andreas—who is using all his long-dormant skills to fight his way off the platform, then out of Colombia and back to the U.S., following the trail of terrorists and operatives sent to stop him. Power Down is a gripping, compelling debut thriller from Ben Coes, a powerful new author, an amazing talent certain to join the ranks of the genre's finest writers.

Critic reviews

Power Down is terrific! With a gripping story, compelling characters, a relentless pace and nerve-wracking suspense, Power Down is one of the must-read thrillers of the year. Don't miss this debut of novelist Ben Coes and the introduction of Dewey Andreas--you'll devour this one and wait anxiously for their return.” —Vince Flynn, New York Times bestselling author of Pursuit of Honor

“A ripping thriller from an exciting new novelist. Power Down kept me glued, turning the pages. Lots of action, a terrific hero, and a slimy villain--thrillers don't get any better.” —Stephen Coonts, New York Times bestselling author of The Disciple

Extremely Violent

Way too much violence and death for me. Don't know that I will read another Coes novel. I just hope the author isn't giving the terriorists ideas about how to plan their next strike against the US. Seems like he had some pretty unique ideas about how to defeat us by attacking the infrastructure and power grid of the country. I love Dewey Andreas.....another Mitch Rapp or John Puller???.....but the story was very disturbing at the least. The narrator was great and fit the characters perfectly. The ending left me thinking we might hear more about this Saudi "cell" in the future.

Totally Engaging!

Well done throughout. Kept me looking forward to what was next. Interesting and plausible storyline. Excellent character development. Great book for a long road trip or a little at a time.

Teterboro ?

Book was very well done and NOT to take away from a very well done production, but Teterboro to Midtown Manhattan in 10 minutes no matter how many sirens and in snow with NO traffic, well, is impossible in my opinion, ... just had to say as a former Cab Driver (one of the best jobs I’ve had) from Teterboro to Midtown ... enjoy the read/listen!

Looking forward to this series!

Obviously, I'm late to the Ben Coes-game, but I'm glad I found this series. Many engaging characters and the plot was thoroughly researched. Looking forward to more Dewey in the second book.

Not a big fan of the narration, however. For all of the intense scenes, he growled the text through clenched teeth. If Dewey shouted, if Fortuna was angry, if...well, on-and-on it went. By the end of the book, it was extremely annoying. I see that Peter Hermann has narrated a few other books in the series. Crossing my fingers that he discovered another method of conveying emotion.

Outstanding!

What made the experience of listening to Power Down the most enjoyable?

The sequences of the book are organized and succinctly told, giving the story a great flow. The characters are well developed, without going to the extreme just for words-sake, and am happy to say (possible spoiler alert!) I'm excited and hopeful for Dewey to come back!

What did you like best about this story?

This story has so many realistic nuances in today's political realm and is so entertaining. If you even remotely like this genre, this book won't disappoint.

Mostly great!!

This story really drew me in!!
Kept me guessing!!
Great story line!!

Until the penthouse scene.
- Only 3 Men to capture a murderous killer?
- Entering rooms alone?
- Stopping to look at file in an insecure sit?
- What happened to the FBI securing the building?

The road block
- Anyone would have noticed wet snow in the back of the ‘Benz, but those cops didn’t???

Then - 80mph in a neighborhood, in a snow storm, turning a corner???

Ya kinda lost me there.

Really good narrator

I’ve listened to 60 books in this niche - Gray Man, John Rain, Scott Harvath, John Dempsey, Reacher, Orphan X, James Reese, to name a few. Aside from Ray Porter who narrates the Reese series and Tier One series, this narrator is the absolute best. 1) he comes off as how I interpret Dewey Andreas to be/sound. It’s authentic, it’s believable.

Ben Coes is fantastic, always is. This book is exceptional though, and Peter Hermann is fast becoming my favorite. I loved this book. Plain and simple.
