In the unbearable heat of another sultry Washington, D.C., summer, a serial killer is on the loose. Dr. Tess Court, one of the capital’s most successful psychiatrists, wants nothing to do with the case—until the police convince her to lend a hand to the lead investigator, legendary ladies’ man Detective Ben Paris. Story
Little else in life is as dangerous as fire jumping. Flying past towering pillars of smoke, parachuting down to the edge of an all-consuming blaze, shoveling and sawing for hours upon hours, days at a time, all to hold the line and push back against the raw power of Mother Nature. But there’s also little else as thrilling - at least to Rowan Tripp. The Missoula smoke jumpers are one of the most exclusive firefighting squads in the nation, and the job is in Rowan’s blood: her father is a legend in the field. She’s been fighting fires since her eighteenth birthday.

Ever since, the press has pursued her as the lone surviving “Black-Eyed Susan”, the nickname given to the murder victims because of the yellow carpet of wildflowers that flourished above their shared grave. Tessa’s testimony about those tragic hours put a man on death row.

Publisher's summary
“The devil killed my body. I cannot fight, I cannot find. I cannot free her. You must. You are the one. We speak to the dead.”
Immediately after hearing these words, uttered to her by an old Romanian woman bleeding to death in the street, detective Eve Dallas begins to notice that her latest case has come with a number of interesting side-effects: visions of the deceased, instant familiarity with rooms she’s never seen before, and fluency in Russian. Likewise, there appears to be a force inside of her, a spirit other than her own, that won’t let her rest until she’s found Beata, the old woman’s great-granddaughter, whose disappearance two months prior remains a mystery. Desperate to be free of her new “gifts”, Eve pursues the facts until she discovers a link between Beata’s disappearance and the disappearance of eight other young women, all of whom attended the same dance classes, none of whom were ever heard from again.

Story
My husband and I are fighting for our lives in hospital after a terrible car accident. But despite my pain, all I can think about is what our families will find behind our front door. The scarf that has been all over the news, belonging to a dead young woman with honey-coloured hair. I have to speak to the police before my husband can. I’m drifting in and out of consciousness, but when I hear my wife talking to the police, accusing me of the murder of an innocent woman, a cold fear grips me. I know I’ve got a temper.

Story
When the call came it seemed like the answer to my prayers. My career as a voice actor had been over for months and me and my little girl Scarlet were living back at my mum’s place. I felt like a failure professionally—and with Scarlet having problems at school, as a parent as well. So, when I was asked to narrate a new book by disappeared novelist Philippa Roberts I jumped at the chance, even if it meant leaving Scarlet with my ex, Hugo, for a few weeks. Hugo, with his perfect new home and his perfect new girlfriend Saskia. But this isn’t a dream come true. It’s a nightmare.

Story
The doorbell rings, just days after my beloved husband’s sudden death. I don’t recognise the woman on our doorstep, with her blonde highlights, a diamond bracelet identical to my own and a bouncing baby boy in her arms. As I show her inside, I notice her eyes grow wide as she takes in our spacious hallway, and the big squashy sofas that we all used to pile on. She glances at the silver-framed family photos and my little daughter hiding behind my skirts. She looks at me, her blue eyes serious. ‘I’m sorry’ she says. ‘I am your husband’s girlfriend. And this is his son.'

Story
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Super natural. Super thrilling .
In the "in death series" by jd robb . You get the impression that Eve Dallas has more then her cop intuition. That in a way she is tethered to the other side of death. In this book it shows. For a short, it packs a punch!

pleasantly surprised
I was very reluctant to purchase an audible ebook. I am a huge J D Robb fan and have all the series except some of these 1/2 books. As usual, Nora Roberts delivers a great story so that was no surprise. What did surprise me was the quality of the audio. I only purchased the audio as I couldn't find the story in normal kindle ebook (which is really annoying) and expected to have to force myself to struggle thru a dry, boring reading. Not so. The story was read with energy and excitement, and the characters individualised. I've now purchased a second audible and listen to it on my way to and from work.

Possession in Death
This story starts where Indulgence in Death ended. The possession of Eve by a Gypsy death talker was interesting as Eve does not believe in the occult. This was a fast pace short story that kept you interesting even if the story was a bit far fetched. Always enjoy the character in this series. Good story for taking a walk with the Ipod.

Only one problem...
There is only one problem with this book and that is, it is too short. Once again J.D. Robb keeps your attention with excitement. She does not fail to keep all the characters interesting and involved. A fun read or listen in this case!!

love this. I have enjoyed every book so far.
I can't wait to read and enjoy the next books in the series with hopefully many more to come. Susan Erickson is always the best.

Great series
I've listened to the whole series twice over the years. This was a short story that I never heard. It was great to get to listen to a short story to get a quick fill of Eve and Rhourk.

And then
I especially liked how this was the continuation - ending? - of Indulgence in Death. Tied up, what I thought, the loose ends. I liked it. Then we were off into another murder, but this one had a rather unexpected twist. Fascinating.
