Portrait in Death: In Death, book 16

After a tip from a reporter, Eve Dallas finds the body of a young woman in a Delancey Street dumpster. Just hours before, the news station had mysteriously received a portfolio of professional portraits of the woman. The photos seemed to be nothing out of the ordinary for any pretty young woman starting a modeling career. Except that she wasn't a model. And that these photos were taken after she had been murdered. Now Dallas is on the trail of a killer who's a perfectionist and an artist. He carefully observes and records his victim's every move.

    "Precious Peabody Perfection"

I love the newly reissued books in this series! Our beloved Peabody speaks in her wonderful, distinctive voice and all the other characters (especially the NYPSD crew) go through the wringer solving this case. It was always one of my favorite books with regard to bringing forth background info on secondary characters and now it is simply perfect.

"Great Book in the In Death Saga!"

This book was one of my favorites in the series.

Roarke finally learns the entire back story with his mother and father, and it was written so beautifully that you wanted to reach into the book and give him a hug. I loved how Eve reacted as well, it was all so natural.

You can tell that Eve and Roarke are both growing in their marriage.

As for the murder, I thought the perpetrator came out of nowhere, though it was interesting to see a killer who really, truly thought he was doing something okay. He wasn't mean about it, just crazy. The action at the end really had me holding my breath, but of course everything turns out alright.

P.S. :Love the narrator! Susan IS the voice of Eve to me.

    Story
"One of the top 3 of the first 16 books of series"
What did you love best about Portrait in Death?

For a change Roark was the one with the big challenge. I was glad to finally have Eve soften up just a little, not that I expect her to go all girly but in a couple of the others I feel she is a bit to hard. Nice twist with Summerset and as always love Peabody

What did you like best about this story?

I'm listening to the series in order, and was starting to get a bit board as the characters didn't seem to be growing or changing but in this one I felt like they finally did again.

What about Susan Ericksen’s performance did you like?

she is awesome! as always. So glad she is doing the whole series.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes but if I say it I will give to much away, every reader will know it when they get there.

    Any additional comments?

    Back on track I think

"Shock revelation - I am not alone"
What made the experience of listening to Portrait in Death the most enjoyable?

Suffice to say - this book fills in many of the gaps the readers have wanted to know. As ever there is a murder to solve and Eve does her cop thing well in her usual style but for once the spotlight is on Roarke - a welcome change. We are given time to be with him on his own in Ireland, to glimpse into his early life and evetually to meet his family.

What did you like best about this story?

We see more of the enigmatic Roarke who finally is revealed as all too human. Although still strong, reliable, rich and clever we now see that he is not totally in control espcially of his feelings. We find out more about his life in Ireland, the reasons behind his loneliness and eventually he discovers he is not alone.

What about Susan Ericksen’s performance did you like?

I enjoy the characters she creates with her voice - especially the delightfully naive Peabody. She even manages to create Roarke's Irish accent in the deep sexy way J D Robb has written it

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Discover the secrets that make the enigma that is Roarke

    Any additional comments?

Although there are a great many books in the In Death series by J D Robb this is probably one of the most insightful
