Publisher's Summary

After a tip from a reporter, Eve Dallas finds the body of a young woman in a Delancey Street dumpster. Just hours before, the news station had mysteriously received a portfolio of professional portraits of the woman. The photos seemed to be nothing out of the ordinary for any pretty young woman starting a modeling career. Except that she wasn't a model. And that these photos were taken after she had been murdered. Now Dallas is on the trail of a killer who's a perfectionist and an artist. He carefully observes and records his victim's every move. And he has a mission: to own every beautiful young woman's innocence, to capture her youth and vitality - in one fateful shot....

    "Precious Peabody Perfection"

I love the newly reissued books in this series! Our beloved Peabody speaks in her wonderful, distinctive voice and all the other characters (especially the NYPSD crew) go through the wringer solving this case. It was always one of my favorite books with regard to bringing forth background info on secondary characters and now it is simply perfect.

at first the characters voices sounded a bit off, but as the story moved on they started to sound more like they had in the earlier books. I love this series, every time I think I have a favorite, I read one even better than the last! I can't wait till read the next one!

"Great Book in the In Death Saga!"

This book was one of my favorites in the series.

Roarke finally learns the entire back story with his mother and father, and it was written so beautifully that you wanted to reach into the book and give him a hug. I loved how Eve reacted as well, it was all so natural.

You can tell that Eve and Roarke are both growing in their marriage.

As for the murder, I thought the perpetrator came out of nowhere, though it was interesting to see a killer who really, truly thought he was doing something okay. He wasn't mean about it, just crazy. The action at the end really had me holding my breath, but of course everything turns out alright.

P.S. :Love the narrator! Susan IS the voice of Eve to me.

Horrible narration. Roarke sounds like a orissy girl and no emotions for other characters. Was really looking forward to this as an audio book but will have to go back to ebook.

    "Good steady listen"
Is there anything you would change about this book?

Her books are good mysteries. What makes them really good is that she develops the main characters. The side characters in the story are made interesting too.

Would you recommend Portrait in Death to your friends? Why or why not?

    Yes

What does Susan Ericksen bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She does a great job with these characters.

    Any additional comments?

Her books alway make you feel good in the end. They are a good way to listen your way through a drive or housework.

    "Love going Into Roarkes history"
Where does Portrait in Death rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

One of my favorites and I have listened to them all

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Background and this was so touching. Not to mention as always she kept us very interested in the case that Eve is working on. She has a way of making you love her characters like family. I can't get enough of them. Has rather spoiled me for other listens.

    Which scene was your favorite?

Can't answer that without giving a spoiler. Readers will know after they've read or listen. I do believe it will be everyone's favorite scene

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

All of them I want to listen to and one setting. I started on this series in August… It went through the whole one by the end of September. Now I have to wait till February for another book. I reviewed if this one much after I listen to it for the first time

    Any additional comments?

I just hope she doesn't ever quit writing these books. And for gosh sake a TV series why hasn't someone done a TV series I don't get it! Nora present Roarke and Eve to Amazon.. That've done Bosch good I'm sure they'll do the same to Roarke and Eve.

    Story
    "Absolutely beautiful"
If you could sum up Portrait in Death in three words, what would they be?

    Moving, Tender, Beautiful

What was one of the most memorable moments of Portrait in Death?

When Eve went to Roarke. I've listened to that chapter many times since I finished the book.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Two parts. When Roarke finally tells Eve about his Mother and when she goes to him in Ireland.

    Any additional comments?

This book focuses on Roarke and his family. It's beautiful. Definitely one of the books I will relisten to and one of my favourites so far.

"Shock revelation - I am not alone"
What made the experience of listening to Portrait in Death the most enjoyable?

Suffice to say - this book fills in many of the gaps the readers have wanted to know. As ever there is a murder to solve and Eve does her cop thing well in her usual style but for once the spotlight is on Roarke - a welcome change. We are given time to be with him on his own in Ireland, to glimpse into his early life and evetually to meet his family.

What did you like best about this story?

We see more of the enigmatic Roarke who finally is revealed as all too human. Although still strong, reliable, rich and clever we now see that he is not totally in control espcially of his feelings. We find out more about his life in Ireland, the reasons behind his loneliness and eventually he discovers he is not alone.

What about Susan Ericksen’s performance did you like?

I enjoy the characters she creates with her voice - especially the delightfully naive Peabody. She even manages to create Roarke's Irish accent in the deep sexy way J D Robb has written it

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Discover the secrets that make the enigma that is Roarke

    Any additional comments?

Although there are a great many books in the In Death series by J D Robb this is probably one of the most insightful
