Jo does it again....

What made the experience of listening to Police the most enjoyable?

John Lee does a great job narrating this book. The only one better would be, may he rest in peace, Robin Sacks.

Any additional comments?

Harry Hole will live on in my memory as the best detective in a mystery thriller novel.
Jo Nesbo has a new fan.

Good

Unfortunately, I compare books to other books and that's not fair. I enjoyed this book, however, I want more thrill and frankly great books are rare. I'm glad I bought and listened to this and will continue to read and listen to Jo Nesbo.

Awesome series

I love the Harry Hole series. It has kept me captivated. Flawed character that does not disappoint.

Returned from the Dead

Wow, I was sure Harry was dead but to my total joy, he is not. He only get better and wiser as he ages. Some cops have a "something else" in them that makes them better at solving the unsolvable and that is Harry. I hope to hear more of his cases.

As always, not a happy affair

Another excellent, though grim, addition to the Harry Hole novels. There were many twists and turns, and more emphasis on character development for some longtime side characters which was a welcome addition.

but...

Any additional comments?

As always, Jo Nesbo delivers a well constructed mystery/thriller with Harry Hole once again saving the Oslo from certain disaster. And for a change, Harry doesn't self destruct! However, I felt that Nesbo used the writing style of trying to make you believe one thing happened but actually didn't (by his omission of key references to characters by name) just a little too much in this story. It only takes a quarter of the novel to finally find out Harry really didn't die. Accepting these "cliffhanger tactics", the story moves well and you can't help finding yourself cheering on every move Harry makes. And Nesbo has left himself plenty of room for future Harry Hole stories. Robin Sachs will always be truly hard to replace but I feel John Lee has captured the "new and improved" (but not THAT new and improved) Harry quite well and his voice is easy to accept as we (and Harry) move forward.

New lifestyle for Harry!

There are several places in the book that the listener/reader isn't sure who Jo Nesbo is talking about. These mysteries are resolved, but it is difficult to write a review and not give any spoilers.

Of course Harry has survived. The previous book left us wondering if it was the end of the series as Harry was so badly injured.

His survival and new lifestyle make the personal part of the book. There is also, of course, a string of depraved murders with much gore and several possible perpetrators. Previously introduced "bad cops" and a young woman intent on creating a scandal are woven throughout. We are once again left with a cliffhanger ending.

John Lee, as always, gives a stellar narration.

The characters are as much fun as the mystery

Would you listen to Police again? Why?

Probably not. I almost never listen to books twice because I already know how they end.

What other book might you compare Police to and why?

Any other Harry Hole book.

Which scene was your favorite?

No one in particular.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Not really.

Any additional comments?

If you're a fan of Kurt Wallander or Jo Nesbo, you'll enjoy this mystery.

Not my favorite Nesbo

The story was pretty good, fairly typical Nesbo. I was glad I’d read so many of his previous books, as there were so many references to them. My big gripe was with John Lee. He was not a compelling narrator and I spent the first half of the book rewinding to figure out who was speaking. I did get used to him, but he was not an asset to the book.
