    "Magnificent"

Not a fan of abridged versions but I decided to give this one a try, and I am very glad I did, the story was brilliant and the narrator did a wonderful job, didn’t stop listening to it until it was finished, just like a good book you can’t put down. I would recommend this production to everyone.

    "The best of Bob Lee"

Sticking close to the real life character that Bob Lee was based on makes this the best of the series. This is a great read.

I like to read just about everything. I especially like to get lost in large series, like Robert Jordon's Wheel of Time or Diana Gabaldon's Highlander series. If anyone has suggestions of this type I'd sure like to hear from you.

This is a really great book! The abridged version was done very nicely. However an unabridged reading would have been better. So many action scenes I enjoyed were not included.

Good story about the point of view of Bob Lee. Could have done without the music in the reading....

"Beau Bridges ruined it for me..."

I never like getting abridged books because I think too much of the story is lost when parts have to be cut. I thought the music and sound effects took away from the story and were totally unnecessary. I think Beau Bridges was the worst narrator I have ever listened to and I've listened to quite a few considering I have more than 1300 books in my library! I will try another book written by Stephen Hunter as long as Bridges is not the narrator. I would not recommend this book to anyone.

    "Sub Par"

Read D-Man801's review. It is right on the money.
I found the abridged version was overly abridged. I thought the author added great detail about the workings of ballistics, guns and sniperdom but I imagine much of this was removed during the process of making the story shorter. I would have liked to of heard more. I always try to purchase only unabridged versions but I guess a full version of this book is not available.
I like Beau Bridges but this narration was not great, almost as if he was making fun of the story as he was reading it. Perhaps it is too much to ask Beau to overcome bad writing. The music in the interludes was a cheezy, but this fit right in with the story and character names.

Sorry, but not even close to Patrick Obrien series as narrated by Patrick Tull.

Enjoyed how the story turned back and forth between who had the advantage. The story seems too short for the listener to get familiar with all the names. The sniper content is pretty cool.

    Story
"If you like smart, don't listen to this book"
Would you try another book from Stephen Hunter and/or Beau Bridges?

I hear this was made into a movie. If it was, it had to have been the worst movie ever. Either that or the movie was better than the book which rarely happens. It was seriously like a bad parody of a very bad movie. Lines like "It's Howdie Doodie Time." In an overly dramatic raspy voice forced from Beau Bridges was supposed to be taken seriously but all it got from the listeners in our car was loud laughter and "oh my, this is maybe the worst writing ever."

Do yourself a favor and skip this and listen to smart writers in the genre like Baldacci, or a book called The Ascendant (forgot the author's name). This was really, really bad.

What could Stephen Hunter have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Not be so obvious and fake. Seriously? Nick Memphis? Bob Lee Swagger? He should have thrown in a character named Mike Pistol and Johnny Blade.

Ease up on the macho and try to add more information that makes the reader smarter, not dumber.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Sounded like he was making fun of people trying to sound macho. Only, he was trying to be serious. It was bad.

What character would you cut from Point of Impact?

I would rewrite all of them. And name them normal people names.

"Original Unabridged would be MUCH better"
Would you try another book from Stephen Hunter and/or Beau Bridges?

Probably not if it is abridged. I have read the original unabridged Point of Impact and it is so much better than the abridged version. I can understand adapting Point of Impact to the Screen and calling it "Shooter", and that is what the abridged book should be titled.

Point of Impact is an outstanding book that gives so much detail into the mind of Bob Lee Swagger. Not to mention that the story is much better than the movie version. Again, I understand adapting it to a movie and there a limitations, mainly time, and this case it is a question of production cost for the period of time that the book takes place that prevent presenting the book in its original form.

Which is really too bad because the original story is so much better than the PC genre' that the movie takes.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

    Not like the original book.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Not gritty enough to be "Bob the Nailer"

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The fact that the book is the result of bringing Stephen Hunter's Bob Lee to the big screen is good. By the looks of the changed title of Dirty White Boys to "Black Light" I'm assuming a sequel to Shooter is in the works. Shooter is really good movie.

    Any additional comments?

Make Point of Impact an unabridged book, and make Shooter it's own book.

"Great but I read the original."

It was good to listen to this book again, but I should have looked for the unabridged version as some of the story detail was lost. still enjoyed it though.
