Publisher's summary

The yuletide season in Lake Eden, Minnesota, guarantees a white Christmas, delectable holiday goodies from Hannah Swensen's bakery, The Cookie Jar - and murder. As a shadow hangs over her friends' Christmas wedding, Hannah's determined to cook a killer's goose before anyone else gets burned.

The Cookie Jar's busiest time of the year also happens to be the most wonderful time...for Christmas cookies, Hannah's own special plum pudding - and romance! Holiday orders are high, and Hannah's slated to provide dessert at the Reverend Knudsen's upcoming nuptials. She's busy as can be and loving it. She also gets a kick out of "Lunatic Larry Jaeger's Crazy Elf Christmas Tree Lot", a kitschy carnival taking place smack-dab in the middle of the village green. Larry thinks he's crazy like a fox with his wild business schemes, but this time, the entrepreneur may have bitten off more than he can chew.

Rumor has it that Larry's in the red - an idea that takes a sinister turn when Hannah discovers the man himself dead as a doornail in his own office. It seems quite a few people would have liked to fill Larry's stocking with coal and then bash him with it - including his bitter ex-wife, his ex-partner's daughter, a woman he was wooing, and the Crazy Elf Tree lot's extremely exasperated investors.

Mystery & Recipes - a great combo

I love baking and reading mysteries and the Hannah Swenson series never disappoints. I thought I knew who did it and was surprised by the real murderer

wonderful as usual

I love all her books! This is not a serious thought provoking book but the characters are fun and the plot is interesting. These are the perfect books as long as you are looking for a cheerful mystery full of good food. My advice for anyone needing a smile is to bake some cookies, brew some coffee and listen to this book.

Enjoyable

I have enjoyed reading about the adventures of the Swensen girls for some time now and this was the first time I chose to use the Audible version and I was not disappointed.

Good one

Things start out simply enough - Norman and Mike help put up a Christmas tree for Hannah but it proves irresistible to Moshe.
When Hannah goes to the Christmas tree farm with Norman to pick up a check for cookie deliveries to their giftshop, they find the body of the business's owner. At least Hannah can explain it to her mother Delores as NORMAN'S finding the body and skip the customary lecture. Subplots include Mike's suspecting Norman's mother of shoplifting and Hannah and Norman's discovering the reason his mother is breaking dinner engagements with him. Delores once again goes " undercover" to investigate, and she's becoming good friends with Dr. Love, an advice giver, whom suspicion falls upon. There's also the mystery of why the Christmas tree lot and gift store seem to be running at a loss when the business appeared to be booming. The chronology is a little off-putting, but the story is good, and the climax is Hannah's fabulous Christmas dinner.

Avoid if possible.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The narrator. It was awkward and awful. Too many pregnant pauses between the different characters.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Not surprising but okay.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The transitions between characters was awkward because of the long pauses.

Could you see Plum Pudding Murder being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

NO

Any additional comments?

I usually enjoy Joanne Fluke, but this time I did not. There were too many repetitious statements and an unnecessary amount of explanation of the most obvious things.

Again….

I love Joanne Fluke’s Hannah series. I don’t mind that Hannah doesn’t choose. I own all of the books and all of the audio books and like them all.

EXCEPT when the audio books’ chapters don’t match the book chapters. Surely this isn’t a difficult concept. It’s SO annoying when they don’t match.

Good mystery. Too many recipes

I really enjoy these mysteries. However, interjecting recipes throughout the entire book is too much! This book especially, has too many! It becomes extremely annoying for those folks that don’t bake or eat sweets. Why not put them at the end of the book? I’ve listened to all the books in the series up to this one. The recipes have ruined the experience and this will be my last.

I was surprised who the killer was this time. My guess was way off.

Another great Hannah story. This one was especially exciting because it centered around Christmas. A lot of the recipes sound real good in this book and I’m planning on making some. I loved the storyline with the usual characters and getting to know them a little more each book. This book ended with a big cliffhanger which I did not see coming! Ready to dive into the next book!
