Publisher's summary

The hair-raising suspense of The General's Daughter... the wry wit of The Gold Coast... this is vintage Nelson DeMille at the peak of his originality and the height of his powers...

Wounded in the line of duty, NYPD homicide cop John Corey is convalescing in rural eastern Long Island when an attractive young couple he knows is found shot to death on the family patio. The victims were biologists at Plum Island, a research site rumored to be an incubator for germ warfare. Suddenly, a local double murder takes on shattering global implications - and thrusts Corey and two extraordinary women into a dangerous search for the secret of Plum Island....

Critic reviews

“DeMille's Mike Hammer-like cop is a chuckle-provoking winner, and the plot cleverly combines biological hazards and shiver-me-timbers pirate legends. An entertaining mix from the big-selling DeMille.” ( Booklist)
“Heavy wisecracking keeps the fun flowing as DeMille cranks up a thrilling, entertaining plot.” ( Kirkus Reviews)

Great story and characters

Excellent story, character development, and performance. High drama with good twists and turns and some comic relief. I will be listening again.

Just Great

Nelson DeMille and Scott Brick bring to life the sarcastic, quick witted attitude of NYC Det. John Corey. All this combines to make this an entertaining read/listen (I have it both on audible & Kindle) you just can’t put down.

Hard to unplug.

What made the experience of listening to Plum Island the most enjoyable?

Such a great story, intense but with humor thrown in to lighten the tension. Scott Brick is fantastic reading this wonderful book.

Story not very realistic with buried treasure and government agents and stuff. However character development and S Brick were outstanding !!!

Worth Every Hour.....

Fantastic characters, full of emotional deja vu.........

I'll admit I tend to focus on the longer fiction works, makes the cost per hour more palatable.

But this is a Great Story to boot, plus....Scott Brick as narrator makes this a smooth journey, worth each and every hour......

Would listen to again, highly recommend

The first of the John Corey novels, really entertaining, funny and great to listen to. Enjoyed the whole book start to finish, highly recommend this as I do all of the John Corey stories. Great mix of truth and fictional story telling, great characters and easy to relate to.

Annoying narrator

I love Nelson DeMille's stories but I hate the narrator's voice inflection when reading questions.

Emphasis on the wrong syllable

Being from Long Island every time the narrator mispronounced the town of cutch-hog I punched my steering wheel. Other than gat good story good production.

John Corey

This is my first DeMille novel and I thought this was an awesome read. I am definitely a fan of John Corey. He is such a funny, crazy and obnoscious guy, you just gotta love him. And while I'm sure a man with this kind of wit and sarcasm can drive you crazy if you had to spend a lot of time with him, but he actually had me busting out with laughter while I was driving, working and sitting in the beauty shop. His sense of humor added tremendously to the whole history/pirate story. I loved it and I love John Corey.
Scott Brick was brilliant as the narrator. His voice is perfect for the John Corey character. I just love the sound of it. I'm looking forward to reading the next John Corey novel, narrated by Scott Brick.
