Publisher's summary

The hair-raising suspense of The General's Daughter... the wry wit of The Gold Coast... this is vintage Nelson DeMille at the peak of his originality and the height of his powers...

Wounded in the line of duty, NYPD homicide cop John Corey is convalescing in rural eastern Long Island when an attractive young couple he knows is found shot to death on the family patio. The victims were biologists at Plum Island, a research site rumored to be an incubator for germ warfare. Suddenly, a local double murder takes on shattering global implications - and thrusts Corey and two extraordinary women into a dangerous search for the secret of Plum Island....

Critic reviews

“DeMille's Mike Hammer-like cop is a chuckle-provoking winner, and the plot cleverly combines biological hazards and shiver-me-timbers pirate legends. An entertaining mix from the big-selling DeMille.” ( Booklist)
“Heavy wisecracking keeps the fun flowing as DeMille cranks up a thrilling, entertaining plot.” ( Kirkus Reviews)

Can't stop listening

Would you consider the audio edition of Plum Island to be better than the print version?

I haven't read in print.

What other book might you compare Plum Island to and why?

You might also enjoy Clancy's books.

Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Scott Brick is a true star. He can make almost anything he reads come to life.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but it would have been impossible because of the length. I did listen over a few days.

Any additional comments?

The first book I read in the "John Corey" was "After Dark.. I have had to go back and listen to them all from there. Now I will move on to the next and the next.

Good

Not a bad read. Too much comedy by the main character. Very good ending and a lot of suspense and mystery.

There's Just Something About John Corey

Where does Plum Island rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Audiobooks are old friends for me. I seldom get books I've never read before, instead choosing my favorites in an audio format. Nelson DeMille hooked me on his lead character, John Corey, with this first book in that series. I'd have to say it's up there in my top 25 books.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The lead, of course, John Corey.

What does Scott Brick bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Brick expressed the lead character perfectly.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The essential goodness of the Corey character was good throughout.

Any additional comments?

This is a book I will want to re-visit at least once a year.

Excellent Story, But ....................

Where does Plum Island rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Pretty good. I like others better but it was good. The killer was pretty predictable but the ending was interesting.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Emma Whitestone and of course, John, if he would just shut up with the wisecracks.

Have you listened to any of Scott Brick’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes. He always does a good job. This was no different.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

No clue.

Any additional comments?

I do not like thse questions. They don't let me get to the heart of my true review of the book.

This is an excellent thriller mystery and Scott Brick nails the main character perfectly. Pretty good on the female voices also. John Corey's wisecracking is overdone to the extent of ridiculousness and very distracting, but since the author felt it needed to be there, Scott played it well.

The only thing I think was completely overdone was the language. I can see it applying in certain situations but not thru the whole book! Also the sexual detail and comments were a bit over the top. All of this did not help the story or the characters. It actually got in the way.

Another Hit!!

I just can't enough of John Corey. His street smart attitude adds so much to the story, and Scott Brick's characterization is perfect fect for this story. I've enjoyed several . Got to make sure I've gotten them all if no I will.

Plum Island - a Peach of a Read!

One of the few stories I pretty much stayed with through all 19 hours with a few breaks...a tight plot, interesting characters and Scott Brick's usual excellent performance adds up to a terrific mystery. I thoroughly enjoyed Plum Island and heartily recommend it.
