Publisher's summary

Deadly consequences ensue when an eccentric millionaire, crippled in a tragic accident, hires a fallen football hero (and ex-con) to impregnate his wife.

Griff Burkett was a school-of-hard-knocks kid, abandoned by his mother, adopted by his high-school football coach. Under his tutelage, Griff earned a scholarship to play college ball and then a multimillion-dollar contract with the Dallas Cowboys. Griff had a good heart, but his Achilles heel was his arrogance, and his gambling. At the end of his career, deep in debt, a local organized-crime kingpin offers him a chance to resolve his loans by throwing a game. Griff agrees, and walks straight into an FBI sting.

After serving time, Griff finds only closed doors. Then he is summoned to the mansion of eccentric millionaire airline owner Foster Speakman. Speakman, a recluse since a car accident left him crippled, is impotent. He offers Griff half a million dollars to impregnate his wife Laura, discreetly, and with manifold rules. One of which is, if Griff succeeds, he will leave town and never see his child as long as he lives.

Griff has few options. He's still hounded by Detective Stanley Rodarte, who organized the gambling sting, and seems set upon ruining Griff's life. Griff has little means of earning a living, no family, and few friends. So he agrees - only to quickly realize he's been set up.

Kept my Interest

I am a big Sandra Brown fan and I would give this book 3-4 stars of 5. It kept my interest and I enjoyed reading it to the end. A fun book with a football element that makes it very different from other mystery books. A good read.

Amazing Book!.

Sandra Brown always delivers. She always makes the bad guy good. The end made me anxious. I wanted more for them but I under stand it had to be professional given the circumstances. Still an amazing book.

Good read!

Enjoyed the book and unlike some fellow Audible readers who feel they need to spoil it for others, I won't comment on its ending. "Hint-hint" spoiling a book's ending for others is a the very least inconsiderate. Sorry, I had to get that bit of "venting" out my system.

Sandra Brown Always Delivers

Interesting story, flawed hero, loved how his character has such depth. Narrator has the best delivery.

"Money talks"...Greed is the downfall

If you could sum up Play Dirty in three words, what would they be?

You'll get caught.

What did you like best about this story?

This story could be a life lesson to many star athletes, corporate executives, anyone in power who are arrogant enough to think they are invincible.

What does Victor Slezak bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Victor has a very expressive tone to his voice. He kept my attention throughout the book. Sometimes when reading, my mind tends to wonder about place described. With a great narrator, like Victor, they bring the story to life.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

"You are not bullet proof"

Any additional comments?

Sandra Brown's novels never disappoint.

An excellent change!

I am a huge fan of: Grisham, Childs, Deaver, etc... I wanted a change, but not a total re-hab. This book was dead on. Not only is the writing crisp, fast and engaging, but the reader is absolutely perfect for the material...
I travel extensively and therefore listen to many books; this is a hands down winner - BUY IT and ENJOY!

Again Sandra Brown makes me fall in love with the characters and take a fantastic ride with her.

Hard to put down

Sandra Brown is by far my favorite author and each new book is better than the last. I had a little bit of trouble bonding with the hero and the nature of the book made it difficult to feel the romance between the two main characters, but the storyline kept me glued to my Ipod.

Sorry... this just dosen't cut it.

Sandra Brown obviously isn't a football fan. This story is so weak that I could have written it... or not! There is no way any top football player would have gotten himself into such a mess. The plot is so unbelievable and shallow that I wish I hadn't wasted my time. This was one really bad listen.
