Good for a first book

Overdone and kitchy at times. Glad he kept on writing and improving his craft.

It may have been a first/early novel but.....

I enjoyed the opening preamble by the author, forewarning the listener that this was a first (?) novel so it might not be that great. He was wrong, I really enjoyed it! Was the plot a teeny bit implausible, sure (I won't give it away but the reader/listener will figure it out quickly), but the story keeps you guessing the whole way through as to 'who dun it' and why. No question Coben hit the ground running right from the start of his writing career.

It may have gotten a bit overcomplicated, which is why I didn't give it 5's across the board but I think it's a great listen regardless.

Pretty sure I’ve heard this before.

Not sure if this is a mystery or soap opera. The plot is excruciatingly predictable early on and all the plot twists stacked up at the end make it tediously long. This is Harlan Coben’s first novel and the outstanding character development present in subsequent books shines brightly in this story as well. I can see why he didn’t publish it before and I’m not sure why he didn’t polish it up before publishing it now. He’s right. This should not be your introduction to his stories.

not like the others

I love HC but you can tell this was a first work. Scott Brick reading it made it manageable to get through

Master piece as usual

Neither Harlan nor Scott Brick ever disappoint. Always on the edge of my seat. Always a mystery to the end. Great job yet again!

Great paced story!

I read some comments about this book being too long and some complaints about this being early unpolished work from Coben but I went ahead and tried it anyway. I must say that I was impressed and I really enjoyed it. I found myself getting back to it whenever I had driving time or even some slow time at home. Great book!

Too long

Some books can carry being long this one though could have ended sooner. It just became completely unbelievable.

Fooled ya!!!

Very good "Who Done it". Minus one star because it was a bit too graphic in parts for me, though. Thought I had it all figured out early on but surprised by ending. Enjoyed book and Narrator. Worth the read

Just ok

I love Harlan Coben’s earlier books, but was rather disappointed in this one. His writing style seems to have changed with regard to dialogue. I didn’t like the narrator at all…..too dramatic. I guessed the mystery half way through the book and all of the murders just didn’t make sense to me.
