Lucas and the Valley Girl

This book was not my favorite of the Prey novels, but more because the story felt too outrageous, than for any other reason. I love Lucas... in fact, I think I have a crush on him and this book did not change that. Ferrone's performance is right on as always. I really hated hearing the one female character speak... it grated on me, but that was exactly what it was supposed to do. Even in the novel, her voice was described as "high and younger, like a valley girl" and that's exactly what Ferrone gave us. Admittedly, it made the story frustrating to listen to at times, but I think the listener is supposed to be annoyed with that character and it was not enough for me to give up on the novel.

Not his best

I found the story hokey in parts but if it wasn't for that it would have been good as usual.

Narrator big disappointment

I am an avid fan of the Prey series by John Sanford. It was very difficult to listen to this novel due to the reading of Richard Ferrone. He said, she said was most irritating along with his poor imitation of the characters. If someone had not read previous books, they would stop right here and assume it is the writer.

Tedious and Poor Narration

I am a huge fan of the Prey Novels, but Ferrone's monotone and one-dimensional narration ruined it for me. He has absolutely no idea how to perform a female character and the "Fairy" characterization was whiny and irritating - he had no idea how to sound like a Valley Girl. It was so off-putting, that my spouse will not listen to it. If I could ask for a refund, I would.

It's a shame, because the story itself was engaging. Buy the paperback book, don't listen to it.

A different twist

Mr. Sanford threw me a curve, I never saw it coming . Richard Ferrone man you're the best . Every little Nuance you have it covered all the different characters , you're brilliant . thank you John Sanford for Lucas Davenport .

Can’t take the voice of the fairy

I can’t listen to this book. The song song voice is the fairy is so obnoxious. Like the story line but the voice kills it for me.

Simple

First. - Include Richard Ferrone as one of your characters. Perhaps a Street Fairy or a child molesting snitch. Then kill him off in the book’s first sentence. His narration makes all of your main characters sound like idiots, The voices he chooses for Lucas and his partners are so phony they’re laughable. As a former police officer, and Deputy Sheriff, I am insulted. Your stories are based in Minnesota, NOT the Bronx. Get rid of Ferrone!

Unbearable Narration on this one.

I am a big fan of this series and have enjoyed every book until this one, sadly. The whining and Nasaly voice he uses for the main Characters in this story make it absolutely unbearable to listen to. I only made it five chapters and that took days. Just can not satnd the sounds coming out of his mouth in this story. HORRIBLE!!

Boring, confusing, with the worst character voice yet

This was a weird one. After revealing key characters in the murder plot line very early on the book, Sanford then brought in a weird amount of confusion, especially on the side of Lucas. This narrator usually does a great job, but the one voice he did for the fairy character made me want to turn this book off constantly. The ending was not very satisfying.
