Publisher's summary

They're trying to take me. Help! Help me, please.

Daphne Mayfield sought a moment of quiet in a park - a break from city life, a tense relationship, and chronic overwork - but then an elderly woman makes a desperate plea. Daphne is reluctant to get involved when she's not sure what's happening, but she wants to help the stranger. Is the rambling old lady the victim of a crime or a victim of dementia?

As her unease grows, Daphne can't let go of the encounter. No matter what her boyfriend or her friends say. No matter what the retired homicide detective warns. Though she knows she's meddling in other people's lives, her instincts scream that the danger is real.

With each increasingly bold intervention, Daphne involves herself in someone else's crisis until she's in too deep to turn back. She's not just fighting for a stranger's life...she's fighting for her own.

Likeable Heroine

I chose this book after several duds , & I couldn't have done better!

If I were to pick one word to describe the book, it'd have to be ENGROSSING. From the first chapter to the last, the story held my attention.

The story follows Daphne, a woman who has had more than her share of tragedy. From the unsolved murder of her childhood hero, her big sister, to the agonizing suicide of her loving but tortured dad, ten years after her big sisters death, and just a few days from what was her sisters birthday.

Her Dad's surprising suicide resulted not only from the murder of his first born while she was a college student, but not significantly, the fact that he insisted and truly believed, SOMEONE had to have seen SOMETHING. but we live in a society of busy people who just don't want yet another responsibility added to their already demanding schedules, even when they might hold the clue police needed to move the case from unsolved to solved.

With that mantra following Daphne info adulthood, Daphne finds herself on the receiving line of just this dilemma, while out at a public park taking a walk, Daphne bears witness to what looks like the kidnapping of an elderly woman. But with just days left till the anniversary of her late father, and the birthday of her deceased sister, can she really handle the stress of involving herself in such a thing? Adding to the stress, Daphne questions herself if what she saw was even a crime at all!?!

not bad

A mystery that makes you think about the way you interact with those around you. The story is a unique concept, but the main character's actions are often cringe worthy. I often found myself wanting to scream at her stupidity.

A little short on story.

Story didn't flow well enough. lSeems too unfinished. would have liked to have heard more of solving her sister's murder.

What next?

Wish I had taken time to listen sooner. An interesting story with social consciousness and blessings of grace

Meh

Disappointing read. I really struggled to like the main character, but she was unrealistically whiney, and she just got on my nerves. I thought the plot was thin. Ok for a free or discounted book, but not worth 1 credit, imo. The narration was good and helped to keep me going.

Daphne and cell phone

It was so unbelievable that she never seemed to have her phone cell . If it stolen one would immediately get one. This annoyed me greatly

Great storyline and darn good characters.

I really enjoyed this book. I can see that it wouldn't be for everyone but I would suggest that you give it a chance. It'll grow on you as the story proceeds!
