Publisher's Summary

Security consultant Rachel Anderson has three big problems.

1. The priceless gem she's providing security for has disappeared.
2. If anyone looks into her background, they'll discover she was once a thief.
3. The person who has the gem knows exactly who she is...

...Because he's the man who raised her, and trained her to be a cunning thief. She'd fled and made a new life for herself, determined to use her unique skills for good. But to retrieve the stolen gem and keep everything she's fought for, she's got to turn the tables and prove the student is now the master.

    "So So"

I usually like these sort of stories.. Kick butt female hero confronts the world. But I confess Rachel Blu left me cold. As a heroine I just had no empathy for her. I know she was raised to be an uber-thief, have no emotions, be self-sufficient etc. But somehow all this training left me with a heroine I just didn't care about. Likewise I'm not a big fan of stories involving thievery an occupation. Perhaps if Blu had been several years into her new career and developed some humanity I could be interested in her. But, her lack of emotional development, actual age, and inexperience in human relations made her sexual encounters uninteresting and virginal.

I do think Hauf's writing is technically quite good. She does a great job with description and plot... But her characters seem to be emotionless mannequins, of the James Bond variety.

    2 Stars.

    "Too much action"

I agree with the previous review where it says this is like a James Bond movie. It is a series of fight scenes joined together with a single plot. I like the way the character develops. I don't like that there is no relief from the battles. Every time Rachel Blu conquors an obstacle, a bigger one appears immediately. She gets no rest, yet keeps on fighting. It's just too much. The ending doesn't fit the rest of the story, either. It's like the author got tired and just wrapped it up.

    "Mixed Feelings"

Interesting premise but way too much angst from the heroine. At times seemed to drag because she just kept talking to herself, pumpinig herself up, etc. Romance is minimal, but action is good and realistic for the most part given the premise. I'd be willing to go with this author again but it wouldn't be my first choice.
