Audie Award Nominee, Best Thriller/Suspense Category, 2013

Once presided over by a flamboyant Hollywood mogul during the Roaring ’20s, the magnificent West Coast property known as Roseland is now home to a reclusive billionaire financier and his faithful servants. And, for the moment, it’s also a port in the storm for Odd Thomas and his traveling companion, the inscrutably charming Annamaria.

In the wake of Odd’s most recent clash with lethal adversaries, the opulent manor’s comforts should be welcome. But there’s far more to Roseland than meets even the extraordinary eye of Odd, who soon suspects it may be more hell than haven.

A harrowing taste of Roseland’s terrors convinces Odd that it’s time to hit the road again. Still, the prescient Annamaria insists that they’ve been led there for a reason. Just how deep and dreadful are the mysteries Roseland and her masters have kept for nearly a century? And what consequences await whoever is brave, or mad, enough to confront the most profound breed of evil? Odd only knows. Like his acclaimed creator, the irresistible Odd Thomas is in top-notch form - as he takes on what may well be the most terrifying challenge yet in his curious career.

Nice book But Doesn't Advance the Characters

If you could sum up Odd Apocalypse in three words, what would they be?

NO Character Advancement

Would you recommend Odd Apocalypse to your friends? Why or why not?

Yes, though it doesn't really advance the main plot of the series, the story is still good.

Which character – as performed by David Aaron Baker – was your favorite?

Odd of course.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Not really

Any additional comments?

Again, I liked this book, but we learn nothing of Anna Marie or what she's there for. We learn nothing more of what Odd Thomas will have to do for her. The story is great, the narration great, but this book doesn't really fit in the series very well. It feels like a filler while we wait for the real next novel in the series where he gets back to telling us what matters.

Pull the master switch on this one

Although I love Odd, each succeeding book gets more weird. This one almost had me tossing in the towel. It really wasn’t a well thought out storyline and was almost clumsy in its revealing itself. I will read the next book just so i can conclude the series, but I certainly hope it is better than this one. I will congratulate Mr Baker for an excellent reading and give him the credit for my being able to make it through to the end. If you’ve read the book you will understand the title of my review.

Missing Odd's Charm

Would you try another book from Dean Koontz and/or David Aaron Baker?

Yes. I love the Odd Thomas series and hope the next one will include more charismatic characters along with the supernatural characters.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Not sure. Maybe I will revisit the first Odd Thomas book.

Have you listened to any of David Aaron Baker’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

He's a terrific narrator. I will always identify him as the voice of Odd Thomas.

Could you see Odd Apocalypse being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

No, this story was pretty abstract and really did not capture the usual charisma of Odd Thomas or other characters. Maybe the first and second Odd Thomas stories could be made into a movie.

Any additional comments?

I'm glad Dean Koontz did not kill off Odd Thomas. I want more Odd Thomas stories displaying his charm and containing a few characters I can identify with. Maybe a setting that is easily identifiable and the supernatural skills that Odd Thomas possesses.

Good odd story

Would you consider the audio edition of Odd Apocalypse to be better than the print version?

N/A

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Somewhat, but it does keep you interested.

Which character – as performed by David Aaron Baker – was your favorite?

Odd of course. He was able to capture the gentleness of the character and when needed the forthrightness.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Unfortunately with Koontz, you can almost count on a certain plot twist which I won't list since it is a spoiler. And that dogs are involved in a positive way.

The plot twist made me cringe in a "again?" feeling.

I did like the way he involved Tesla though - very entertaining.
That made me laugh

Any additional comments?

This is a solid Koontz novel and a great addition to the Odd series.
I'm looking forward to the next.

Also, I continue to find Koontz's prose to be superior to many authors - a very easy listen.

My favorite Koontz is still Dark Rivers of the Heart - why that isn't a movie I just don't understand.

This was a buy strictly on Mr Koonce name. A surprise, yet most enjoyable. Recommended.

Not Bad

I lived the first few books in this series but the one before this and this one were not as amazing. A little bit confusing and hard for me to picture on my mind. That being said, I love Odd and will continue to read about his journey. I also love that David Aaron Baker has been consistently the voice of Odd.

I did not find this as compelling

As other Odd Thomas books but I enjoyed it. The reader was very good and I could feel the story progressing. There were a lot of bad guy characters and it made me anxious as to how they would be overcome, especially mutant pig-people. I would recommend this audible version to Dean Koontz fans.
