Publisher's summary

A talented painter in her early thirties, Samille Sweeney has achieved enviable success. Her work sells at an exclusive New York City gallery and her popularity is at an all-time high when she begins to experience lush, vivid dreams drenched in vibrant hues that influence her artwork. When Sweeney paints a graphic murder scene that mirrors a recent real-life murder, she is thrust into suspicious light.

With Now You See Her, Linda Howard grips the imagination and touches the heart with breathless excitement.

So glad the Unabridged version has been released!!

This is one of my favorite Linda Howard titles...I had bought the abridged edition and hated it. Because I had read the whole book - the edited version ruined the storyline. SO glad Audible provided the WHOLE book!!! Yeah.

As for the story, it is very interesting with a paranormal twist and great plot. I very much liked Sweeney and Richard. No games - both very straight-forward. Excellent listen on this one.

I love all of Linda Howard's books but this one is a favorite of mine.

Have you listened to any of Laurel Lefkow’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not listened to Laurel Lefkow prior to this book. She did a wonderful job.

Very good plot...

Any additional comments?

This book was very entertaining. The plot and the characters were very well developed. The ending had a very interesting twist. It was somewhat predictable but the motive and the plot behind it were well thought out.
I'm starting to like the writer's female characters. A common denominator that seems to follow in her books is that the leading lady is strong and independent. They all seem to be self-reliant. At first, I would describe the relationships that develop in the stories as being ones that involve a man "taming" the woman and forcing her into domestication. I am recanting that first initial description and revising it to "the relationships develop with men that do not stifle the independence and self-reliance but rather encourage and cultivate"

Sweeny, the Reluctant Psychic Painter

I really enjoyed this title and am so glad it is finally available in an unabridged format. This is one of the older Linda Howard titles and the story is somewhat dated but still very enjoyable. Sweeny, raised by careless parents who reveled in emotional excess has worked hard to live a controlled life on her own terms, which is reflected in the delicate and deliberate aesthetic shown in her paintings. When she unexpectedly receives extra paranormal "gifts" she is most thrown by the way they have altered her artistic style. But then the psychic gifts and her artistic abilities begin to merge, and Sweeny is deeply afraid of the changes. The hero is typical Howard in that he is a strong, alpha male character who moves the romantic plot line forward at amazing speed, but he is interesting all the same. His situation adds a lot of twists to the plot and I found him to be an interesting and likable character. There are some twists at the end of the story that keep the mystery and suspense interesting. Still one of my favorites of Linda Howard's older stories.

Timing. Listening and reviews are all about timing.

I listen to some audios more than once. I have a few hundred or more in my library here on Audible, but I rarely write reviews. I've listened to this book maybe 4 times. The first time was so-so. A couple of years later, I listened again, and geez, it was good, I really liked the mystery and suspense and of course, the romance...which is why Linda Howard is in my top 10 authors.

My point is this. It all depends on what mood you are in at the time of your listen. If you are grumpy or sullen...you won't like anything, and knowing it isn't fair to give a low score, you give it a 2 or 3, I always give at least a 3 if it's a favorite author and I'm in a "mood" and the narrator isn't yucky. And if it is a favorite author, I re-listen. I've fallen in love with books, I thought I didn't like...all because of the mood I was in at the time.

So, if you might have been unfair in a rating because of your mood, re-listen when you are in a better one. Some of the ratings are really unkind and mean and nit picky. Anyone can be a critic...but how many books have you published?

The worst

Would you ever listen to anything by Linda Howard again?

no

Any additional comments?

This has got to be one of the worst books by Linda Howard. No storyline, no character development, nothing but unromantic sex. Maybe she was trying to cash in on the whole 50 Shades of Grey craze. If you just want to hear about 2 people getting it on with little to no build up, than this is your book. Don't get me wrong, I like a good sex scene I just prefer it to have a good storyline attached to it and not just placed in their gratuitiously throughout the book.

So Happy This Is Finally Available

Would you consider the audio edition of Now You See Her to be better than the print version?

No, of course not! But, for one who loved the print version--this is a joy to listen to. It's a great story with a mystery and a twist. And, something that I enjoy with my suspenseful romances, a lot of humor.

What did you like best about this story?

As an artist, I loved that the heroine was one as well. Sweeney is totally obsessed with her art and isn't looking for a romance as she deals with some really weird paranormal changes in her life.

Which scene was your favorite?

Sweeney's 'Jeopardy prowess' in the police station. Really funny!!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I both laughed and cried and that's a tribute to Linda Howard since I've read this book many times before.

Any additional comments?

My only regret is that the hero (Richard Worth) doesn't have a deeper, sexier voice--which my imagination provided.

Great fun!

I'm so glad I listened to the audiobook instead of reading the book. While I would have liked the book in print, I can't help but think the narrator increased my enjoyment quite a bit. Narrator Laura Lefkow's unusual delivery worked perfectly for the heroine. The reader felt the distracted way Sweeney's mind worked, complete with her vagueness and social unease. It was very well done.

Although I figured out the killer early on, I still enjoyed the mystery. The characters, from Sweeney and Richard to the secondary characters, like the police detectives, were well fleshed out and enjoyable. The dialogue was well written and made sense, something I always appreciate!

She paints the KILLERS face in her dreams~ 4 STARS

PLOT: SWEENEY is an artist who's nightmares take form in paintings that are scenes of a crime.

Paranormal but a good one~ Paris Sweeney a gifted artist has some "extra skills" that cannot be explained including her dreams take form in paintings of the scene of a crime. She is soon being pursed by Millionaire Richard Worth~ who finds her FACINATING. When Richards Wife is killed both Richard and Sweeney become suspects. This is a solid paranormal and one of Howards BEST. it moves along very well and fast does not drag. Sweeney and Richard are a great couple who find their attraction hot and add the mysterious killer who kills several people around the couple. GREAT READER~ AND SOLID PLOT I give this one 4 out of 5 for very good plot, great couple and 5 STAR reader. hard to find in abridged format for many years.... audible has been able to obtain this in unabridged what a TREAT~ thank you Audible. also released are MR. PERFECT, OPEN SEASON, AND ALL THE QUEENS MEN in unabriged~ I would highly reommend Mr. Perfect as her very best~ oldies but goodies~
