Both a white-knuckle thriller and a story about the loyalty of old friends and the bond between parent and child, No Second Chance is another masterpiece from an author who writes "suspense at its finest" (Jeffrey Deaver).

"You're going to like this experience !"

This was my first Coben book. After listening I bought another. I never felt let down. The book just flowed with one twist after another. I usually listen to audible books when I commute to and from work. This tale caused me to continue listening every night when I finished my journey. Get it, you'll love it, I did.

    "Really"

The villians in this story reminded me of some of the bad guys in John Sandford's Lucas Davenport series. Really wretched, which makes this a really good story. The narration is excellent and the flow of the story is near perfect. The twist at the conclusion is fairly predictable, but I don't think it detracted from the whole. None of the protagonists, including Marc and Rachel, are totally likeable but I think that makes for a more interesting novel. If you like suspense, twists and turns and a satisfying ending, you will enjoy this listen.

"No Second Chance Doesn't Need One"

No Second Chance is one of the most enjoyable picks that I've had from Audible.
It goes without saying that Scott Brick's narration is terrific.
This story grabs the listener with the pathos of the sudden and terrible destruction of a man's life and doesn't let go until a re-birth that touches the heart.
Be careful of a plot that not only has twists but hairpin turns.

    "One of Coben's best"

Coben has rewritten the book on mystery-suspense. His third novel in the non-series works that have redefined his readers, he remains at his peak. The narration on this nearly equals the narration by Ed Sala on the unabridged version of Tell No One that is a must listen and must read. Tell No One was the first of his four mystery-suspense works.

    "Plot bloat"

Harlan Coben likes the innocent to twist in the wind. The problem here isn't the twisting, it's that there is no reason for it. Close to half of this book is taken up by the authorities suspecting the hero, who was shot and nearly died as the book opens.

That fact, the near death, eliminates him as a suspect, but not in the mind of one particularly thick FBI agent. We know said hero didn't do it, but we have to put up with the twisting and torturing of this man whose innocence is never in question. Won't give away the ending, but, guess what? He didn't do it, which you know in the first five minutes.

Without that fatal flaw, good story.

Where does No Second Chance rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I love listening to the narrator Scott Brick. His performance keeps me on the edge of my seat.

What other book might you compare No Second Chance to and why?

"Great Storyline Keeps This Winner Afloat"

Honestly, as I was listening to the first two-thirds of this book, I was wondering when I was going to discover the same excitement others did. It was an amiable story, obviously intricately plotted, but not something that deserved so much praise. I even felt Scott Brick gave a less than stunning narration. But, in true Coben fashion, I was knocked out by the final third. This book is well worth the purchase. The fact that is has absolutely no connection to what could have occurred in the "real" world doesn't enter into the equation. A great job by a talented writer.

    Story
    "Too drawn out.."

This was a decent book. Not his best by any means. I found it to be very long and tedious, repetative. The same thing happening almost thru- out. with no end. At one point, I was rolling my eyes going..' Come on already ' wanting the story to move on or show a little more backbone. The male character, Mark, thinks he can be Superman, only to trip or be tripped by himself or someone else. He came to the rescue but never rescued. He threatened alot of people but then someone would go tell him to go stand in the corner and he did. And it was his life we were talking about. The female former F.B.I agent ,Rachel, on the other hand, charged forward like a mad bull, taking the beatings of a lifetime, almost getting shot I don't know how many times, actually did. Jumping through windows. Is there anything she couldn't do or didn't do? The whole time running what she learned through her FBI training but getting her butt kicked anyway. I wanted her to be able to shoot that gun one time just to make it more interesting. And to do it all for a man she hadn't seen in 15 years was a little nuts but apparently love has no limits here. Problem after problem, but technically the same problem kept getting shoved at you with no solution. Like chasing your tail. Yet who saves the day? Another unlikely person rising to the occasion for someone he didn't even know, a backwoods army guy who was a stranger that went above and beyond first impressions. Perhaps he saw Mark's oblivion, the cluless and clutziness of who this character was. And after all that, the anticlimatic ending. There are so many little people in this story, with these horrendous backgrounds.. I think I could keep going here. The more I write, I'm thinking, the less I liked this book. Scott Brick, the reader, read so slowly I felt like falling asleep. It pains me to say it because I am a huge fan. I would save the credit. If you find you need to read it, maybe the actual book would be better.

    "First Rate Thriller"

Well, first I have to say that I have an Audible addiction. I have three accounts and download about 5 books a month, more or less. Obviously, I don't hit on all winners, and some I just have to abandon completely.
However, any book I've chosen that Mr. Scott Brick has read is always a sure bet. There have only been one or two that I had trouble with, but I don't fault Mr. Brick for it. No Second Chance is a thoroughly engrossing read, though; no problems with story or narrator. You get hooked right from the first chapter and love every minute you are with the protagonist. I would recommend this book to anyone with a love for fast-paced mysteries, this book doesn't lack action, there are no long spots to get bogged down in, you just wish the story was longer. Try it and see if I'm not right.
