The addictive Karen Rose serves up her most relentless thriller yet.
A woman is dead, and her fiancé is serving a life sentence for a murder he didn’t commit. Now PI Paige Holden holds the only piece of evidence that could see him freed, but she cannot take it to the police. With the help of disarming state attorney Grayson Smith, Paige is determined to avenge the murdered woman and set an innocent man free.
But Paige has only scratched the surface of a cover-up far deadlier than she could ever imagine. A string of mysterious deaths of women with a shared past sets Paige on the trail of a ruthless killer. The problem is, the killer’s on her trail too.

“Rose’s deft combination of hot heroine and cool hero should please her many fans.” (Publishers Weekly)
Amongst the best...Karen Rose is a MASTER of suspense. She pulls you into the story so well you're afraid if you turn if off for a second you might miss something.
Paige ~ she's been through so much and not only survivied, but is determined that she's going to carve a new and better path for herself. She's seen her friends find love, and while she's not sure she CAN find it, she wants to at least give herself the chance...and the choice. She's strong enough to uproot herself and move and start over on her own, w/ only her dog by her side.
She REALLY does the cliff hangers and red herrings well. When we're not supposed to be guessing who it is we're 'seeing', she nails it. I had NO idea, and I was trying my best to guess, lol. She's different, but perfect for this book.
You'll be on the edge of your seat the whole show!
I LOVE Karen Rose's books, and can't WAIT for the next one...I hope it's going to be Stevie's book, whom we've gotten to know in the last few books. She and her daughter, Cordelia, have been through alot, and need a happily ever after!
No. The book was repetitive, plot not believable, and characters poorly drawn and treated. Full of cliched ideas, and not well researched on the law issues.
Not sure, maybe a Frederick Forsyth.
Reader was excellent. I have not listened to her other performances. She just didn't have much to work with on this book. I felt sorry that she had to read so long.
The author needs a good editor and more research if she is going to deal with law issues.
I love this genre and I was really looking forward to settling down for a listen after reading the reviews. Let me begin by saying I really wanted to love it. The storyline was solid and the characters were believable. Where they lost me was the vapid, adolescent banter and interaction that absolutely NO intelligent adults in positions of authority would be party to. There were some truly inane conversations and groan worthy exchanges that had me almost cringing with embarrassment for the character. Some of it was so bad I fast forwarded to get through it. I don't mind a bit of double entendre and flirtation, but I have never heard adults have such ridiculous conversations. That having been said.... the story was ok, there were a few surprises and it was worth a credit. The narrator was good, but not on my favorites list. I would not recommend to a friend with a straight face.
Karen Rose spins a good long tale that keeps you guessing to the end. Realized after I'd started that this was the same narrator as a previous Rose book. Won't make that mistake again.
Love to get a book that I can't stop reading. I love page turners
Shou win to listen to. Lots of twist and turns. Keeps you wanting to turn on book.
Yes. The characters were so well developed, that, like real life, you just don't know what they would do next or were capable of.
I can always tell when and what each person is saying because she makes her voice different for each character. No simple task in books with a huge cast. When I listen to Marguerite, I never have to figure out who is saying what. I don't need "he said"s or "she huffed" because of the magic of Marguerite. If my books ever opt to audio, only Marguerite could make me say "yes". I have Kitty, Kate Shugak, Rachel Morgan. If Marguerite performs it, I get it.
I hate films. Only books. Let Hollyweird keep remaking the classic crap. We can't have too many "King Kong"s. Need I say more?
I thought this was a great book, from the beginning to the very end! Kept a steady pace, and I found myself not wanting to stop listening!
57 Yrs Young, have been reading since age 5. Avg 3-5 books per week. Avid reader/listener, enjoy ALL genres & many writing styles.
Another great book by Karen Rose. As usual. 2nd listen was as good as the first!
