"Intense, complex and unforgettable." (James Patterson)
"There's action and chills galore in this nonstop thriller." (Tess Gerritsen)
"delivers the kind of highwire suspense that keeps you riveted to the edge of your seat." (Lisa Gardner)
A different narrator. I stopped listening as it was amazingly overacted and the narrator emphasised the wrong word in sentences making the meaning unclear…really weird.
Anyone. Sadly this narrator is not good at this type of work.
"Great story, not so great narration...."
This book is a slow burner and it did take a while to get into it didn't help with the narrator's quite irritating voice. It was the story that kept me interested but to be honest i haven't listened to it again primarily because of the narrator which is a shame.
"an excellent book"
An excellent book that kept me guessing to the end, and beautifully narrated. A great author.
"Good Story, Ham Reading"
I've enjoyed all of Karen Rose's books - an enjoyable mixture of drama, mystery and romance so my husband treated me to this one from Audible. Oh my god! I had no idea that it was possilbe to 'over act' while reading a book (and I've listened to more than my fair share over the years) but Maxine Howe certainly manages it! She even dramatises the chapter numbers! I've given up listening to it and brought the book which I am thoroughly enjoying and will be making sure that I don't listen to anything else narrated by this woman.
"Good story, shame about the reader"
This could be an exciting story. Unfortunately, the reader makes it as dull as ditch water. She doesn't do different voices and the intonation is all wrong.
To the story, it was quite complicated and the bad performance made knowing who was speaking and about whom/what near impossible. Also there were the usual embarrassing sex scenes to listen through (or fast forward, as I did in the middle of number 2/3).
I like all of Karen Roses books, I never guess the baddies correctly before we're informed.
Once again another great story. Looking forward to the next one. I only hope Karen is writing as fast as I am reading hehe.
Lots of twists and turns until you each the climax. 20 hours well spent. I would recommend this.
"Does not live up to hype"
This is my first book by Karen Rose. I cannot say it will be my last but it did drag on a bit and didnt find the narration or storyline particularly gripping. The story was ok and I guess I was interested somewhat in the characters but to be honest finished the book as I paid for it and felt I should. Could not recommend this read.
"Too much too soon"
This story was overwhelmed by the narrator, her voice was grating on my before t he first chapter was out. The story revolves around the 2 central characters who meet early on. There are timestamps throughout the story which only served to emphasise how little time had passed since the last one and yet the central characters were passionately involved and knew so much about each other. The meaningful looks etc and emotion loaded words between them ridiculous after only 24/48 hours of knowing each other.
The narrator tried to invoke the passion in the words between them but it just made me cringe.
I might have coped with the story had it been read by someone else, as it was I listened on double speed just to get to the end.
