Editorial reviews

Amanda Ronconi narrates this humorous mystery with the vocal equivalent of an eye roll. While she doesn’t sound bored, she certainly sounds annoyed. But imagine her character’s predicament: She’s purchased an old crumbling Victorian on the Jersey shore, she’s fixing it up into a guesthouse, her precocious nine-year-old is hectoring, and now she finds out the Victorian is haunted!

Admittedly contrived, over-the-top, and including references that will be dated unto obscurity within the next decade or sooner, Night of the Living Deed seeks to achieve only one thing: Your temporary laughter and merriment at - or with - Ronconi’s eye-rolling voice.

Publisher's summary

Welcome to the first Haunted Guest House mystery - the getaway every reader can afford.

Newly divorced Alison Kerby wants a second chance for herself and her nine-year-old daughter. She's returned to her hometown on the Jersey Shore to transform a Victorian fixer-upper into a charming-and profitable guest house. One small problem: the house is haunted, and the two ghosts insist Alison must find out who killed them.

Funny, light and Enjoyable Characters

Great story. I enjoyed it thoroughly. Deducted one star as the mystery itself could have been more thrilling with edge of the seat moments but great read nonetheless

Lighthearted Listening.

This was an entertaining story that didn’t require much attention. Good to listen to while I was working.

Great story! Very entertaining!

Would you consider the audio edition of Night of the Living Deed to be better than the print version?

I don't know since I've never read the book, but the audio was very good because I liked the dry humor of the reader acting as the narrator.

What did you like best about this story?

The tongue in cheek type of story-telling that made the story much more interesting. I liked that the ghosts each had their own quirks and personalities and how they seemed "real" even though they were ghosts.

What does Amanda Ronconi bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Definitely the speaking style! You wouldn't get that by reading it yourself.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I would have like to, but I ended up listening to it in sessions as I was working.

Any additional comments?

I recommend this book to anyone who loves a good story with a twist!

Slow to start with a good ending

It was cheesy and cute. It was slow to start but once the story picked up it was enjoyable. Can't wait to listen further

Who ever thought Ghost Stories could be fun!!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

yes I would recommend this book, it is fun and quirky

Who was your favorite character and why?

Its hard to pick just one favorite character, Alison the main character is great I like her. But Maxie the ghost is quirky and moody and you do not know what to expect from her, that makes her very interesting. Over all I would say Maxie is my favorite character.

Which scene was your favorite?

One of my favorite scene was when Alison found out that her daughter and mother have been seeing ghost for years and keeping it from her.
Another was when she was on the ladder and she falls and the bucket of plaster fell off and bopped her on the head and she thought she was hallucinating when she saw see through people.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Oh yes, I wanted to listen to this book in one sitting and I did :) I started it in the AM while I was crocheting and by evening I was ordering book 2 :)

Any additional comments?

The reason I chose this series was solely because of Amanda Ronconi. She is my favorite narrator. For me she makes the books come alive and plus all the authors she narrates for have an awesome sense of humor in there writings. This book and series get full stars and two thumbs up.

Irritating narrator

Any additional comments?

Although I did eventually get a bit used to the narrator's extremely twangy accent, it was something that was annoying throughout the entire book. I did listen to the entire story, which was clever and entertaining, but at times I was cringing due to the sharp and nasal tone of the narrator, who was capable of toning that down, which she did when speaking in some of the character's voices.

Fun story

Home renovation, ghosts, and a murder mystery... what more could you want? This was a fun story with good characters. The narration was great, too. I look forward to listening to more books in this series.
