John Sandford's best-selling Lucas Davenport series continues with the fast-paced, compelling thriller, Night Prey. A series of deaths leads to the possibility of a brutal serial killer of unusual skill and savagery. And if Lucas is right, the killer is just getting warmed up....
Prey tell: listen to another Lucas Davenport thriller.

So happy early books were re-recorded with Richard Ferrone. He is Lucas Davenport and makes tyhe books so much better. Story builds with intensity throughout the book until the eventual ending. Good book I enjoyed it very much.
These are never brain surgery but it's fun to see the way Lucas and his crew works and there is always a pretty good degree of tension. Lucas tends to be kind of a dog but a smart one. This one makes me wonder if he's growing up. Have to wait and see. I'm sure I'll get more, I just wished I wasn't going to have to switch to Abridged if I want to listen to some of them. I really don't want abridged......
Like the narrator. He works well with the characters. I'm glad he does the next two unabridged ones.
I enjoyed this one best of all because it finished Clara Rinker. I was surprised on the ending but if you know the ending what is the point in reading the story anyway. I am however disappointed that Naked Prey is not in the list to be read. Audible will have to take care to put it in their package.
Don't know what I want to be when I grow up. Trip's cool though. Use Audible to make gym-training sane... And rip my imagination.
Wuddaya want from a police recedural thriller? It's here. Sandfrord was very good when he wrote this one. Which means that Lucas Davenport holds up as a rich, macho, intelligent cop/detective. If you read for more entertainment than TV or the movies are generally giving out.... Read this. If you want War And Peace... I see that it's on sale. That's not what I wanted, this was... It did not disappoint.
Reading allows me to travel through time, to visit the world's unique and stunning places, to become somebody I am not... It is glorious.
Night Prey continued the story of Clara Rinker and I loved it. Sandford's books always build suspense and create an up-all-night situation for me. I end a chapter and in my head I say: "Just one more chapter then to bed." The problem is, I do that over and over again. And the books that involve Clara are some of my favorites because she is deliciously bad. And her brand of evil feels more real and more personal.
Ferrone continues to be the perfect voice for Lucas. Spot on every time.
I love all genres of books. However, when I listen to audio books as I clean, garden, drive they are better with a lot of heat!
This is the sixth in the Lucas Davenport series of thrillers.
The novel opens as most of this series do, with a graphic description of a murder being committed. The story then proceeds by alternating between the killer's point of view and Lucas'. There is never any doubt that Lucas will prevail and will survive the encounter but the twists and turns that will occur along the way are intriguing, clever enough to keep the reader turning pages long into the night. The killer in this one, Koop, is particularly chilling. His stalking of a victim that he selected on a whim is chilling and will surely cause many readers to check and recheck their curtains at night.
This series has a strong overall story arc, not so much that it is impossible to enjoy the books out of order but pronounced enough that reading the books in order does add to their enjoyment. Lucas Davenport began the series (RULES OF PREY) as a cold, calculating loner who never met a woman he did not want to bed. Over the course of the series he has matured, he has attempted and failed to establish a long term relationship but has now begun a new one with Weather, a woman he met in WINTER PREY. Could it be that this bad boy detective is growing up?
Richard Ferrone is great with the delivery of the story.
My favorite writer/narrator team. I have listened to many and this has some unusual twists to the story.
