Publisher's summary

Based on true events, but unlike anything you've ever heard before, number-one New York Times best-selling author Nelson DeMille has created what may be his finest work to date.

At dusk on July 17, 1996, on a deserted Long Island beach, a man and a woman engage in adulterous sex in front of a video camera. Suddenly a terrible blast lights up the dark summer sky. TWA Flight 800 has just exploded in midair with 230 souls onboard, and the video camera has recorded the last moments of the doomed airliner.

Five years later the government has declared the crash a result of mechanical failure. But John Corey, an ex-NYPD detective who is now a contract agent with the Federal Anti-Terrorist Task Force, is persuaded by Kate Mayfield, his wife and task force partner, that the case deserves a second look.

Kate, a career FBI agent, plays by the rules. Corey plays by no rules but his own. Against long odds and warnings from their superiors, they set out to reopen the case and discover its most crucial piece of evidence. The hunt will lead to a conspiracy at the highest levels and a race toward an elusive and lethal truth that could be even more horrifying than the crash of Flight 800, one with unimaginable consequences for America...and the world.

Best of the bunch

I have read all DeMille's John Corey books and, in my opinion, Night Fall is the best. The start is a little slow,, but stay with it. You won't be sorry.

A High-Five to John Corey

I didn't think DeMille could top Lion's Game, but Night Fall was just as good - if not better. I listened to this audiobook immediately after listening to Lion's Game. In true DeMille fashion, the attention to detail and explanation of facts make the lines between fact and fiction blur in a captivating way. John Corey is again at his best and DeMille is very gifted at making t his characters come to life.

I had my ipod running nonstop with this book - while driving, sleeping eating. I couldn't put this book down.

Unlike other readers, I really LIKED the ending. In fact, I was so engrossed with the characters that I didn't even see it coming. It was a haunting and real way to end the book.

Highly recommended to all.

What an ending!

This is the third novel in the John Corey books by Demille but I started with it anyhow. It has enough back story so that starting with this book isn't a problem. You will certainly want to download the Lion's Game from Audible also, it is the second book in the series.

Demille uses a true story to build a fictional novel around, so naturally the ending was going to be kind of restricted in what he could do. Well, he smashed one out of the park here. I don't know why but I didn't see it coming at all. Totally floored me.

Scott Brick does an excellent NYC accent and has Corey's smart-alec commentary down cold. Fantastic narration.

Intense, and very well read.

Basing a novel on a factual situation is tricky, but this was quite well done. The ending is a shock, and to some reviewers, dissatisfying. The possible causes of the crash, the real mystery, are well outlined. The fictional story is intense, well written and excellently read.

Suspenseful and sexy

Suspense: definately there. Sexy: there as well even though it's not a book about sex. First, the narrator, Scott Brick, is one of my favorite narrators and so even if the book had not been as good, somehow he would have made it turn out to be better. The fact that this book was good, enhanced it even more. I highly recommend all readers check out Scott Brick's readings, even if they are by authors that the reader would have not most likely given a chance. In any case, the whole book was enjoyable to read. Just like other John Corey books by Nelson, this one left you wondering how it would end. This one was hard to put down, and this one developed the characters in style. I highly recommend reading other John Corey books as they are quite worth it. The ending is especially well done and worth not spoiling.

Awesome!

This is the best Nelson Demille book. I love the character. I certainly hope that he writes another with the same character. Also, Scott Brick is a great narrator. I think he is so good that I look for other titles that he reads.

A Big Coverup

My 3rd John Corey novel, and I like this protagonist and his wife. The FUs spoken so often is a little over the top, but Corey is a sarcastic bully at times and definitely jaded about the law and his job. on the other hand he is an excellent detective and good at solving complex criminal schemes. Thank goodness for his level headed wife FBI agent kate Mayfield, she patient and also very smart. She mellows John just a bit. This whole story well written is skillfully narrated by Scott Brick one of my favorite readers. The FBI and CIA are covering up a massive national tragedy and Corey and Kate are uncovering the true facts.
It is a great suspenseful story.

Good Book but not one of the best by Nelson DeMile

This book has a good story but it develops a bit slowly. Probably better off listening to this book in abridged format then unabridged.I felt that a lot of details could have been skipped and the ending was so so... As I said, it a good book but not one of the best by Nelson DeMile
