It was one of Eve Dallas’s earliest takedowns, back in her uniform days. A monster named Isaac McQueen had been abducting young victims and leaving them scarred in both mind and body. Thanks to Eve, he wound up where he belonged, removed from civilized society in Rikers. But he’s not behind bars anymore.

After his escape, McQueen has two things in mind. One is to take up where he left off, preying on the young and innocent - when necessary, with the help of a female partner all too willing to be manipulated and to aid and abet his crimes. His other goal: to get revenge on the woman who stopped him all those years ago, now a high-profile lieutenant in the NYPSD and married to one of the city’s richest men.

Commanding Eve’s attention with a chilling and brazen crime, McQueen sets off the chase - forcing Eve down a road marked with blood and tears, a road that eventually leads southwest to Dallas, Texas, the home Eve fled long ago. And each new twist brings her closer to the harrowing memory of when she wasn’t a hardened detective but a vulnerable girl just like McQueen’s innocent prey. As her husband, Roarke, tries to rescue her from the nightmares that claw at her mind, and her partner, Peabody, doggedly works to support her, Eve must confront - and call upon - the darkest parts of her own soul in order to survive.

Crack another case with Eve Dallas.

New York to Dallas

Susan Ericksen makes this series she narrates the story perfectly. I thought after the last visit to Texas by Eve Dallas that put the childhood to rest and no more to be said about the subject. But Robb proved me wrong she came at the subject again with a new twist. I am not sure I can add more to the review topics as many people have reviewed this new release but If you are a fan of the Death Series you will love this book.

Loved it, couldn't put it down!!!

Like someone else said...the past few books have been lacking, and not as good as many other books in the series...but this one, was great, and I'm so glad that we got some more history on Eve. I did miss some of the usual characters...but the story was so gripping, that I quickly became absorbed in the fact that this was truly all about Eve (no pun intended) I plan to re-listen to it again...I love the narrator...she IS Eve...and she does a masterful Roarke. She makes every character distinct, and it is so easy to watch the movie in my mind as I listen to these books, because the sounds of the characters are so easy to recognize. As usual...can't wait for the next one. Bravo Nora!!!

Number 33 and going strong!

Without a doubt this is THE BEST series ever. The futuristic setting, incredible action, and phenomenal cast of secondary characters made this a series that keeps you coming back for each new installment. The constantly evolving relationship between Eve and Roarke is the highlight of this series for me, but I am as equally as invested in every secondary character that makes up Eve and Rourke's world.
The Narration of Susan Ericksen is so extraordinarily perfect its uncanny, she is Eve Dallas, brings her to life and holds the listener spellbound to the very last word.
The In Death series is not to be missed!

Emotional

Probably the most emotional and personal of the series. Fantastic reveal of Eve's life. This was a great story for the series and the title was perfect!

A crucial point

I fear that the end is coming very soon to the in Death series
This is the first main book without the word "death" in the title. That is because this book is not only about death, but more about the birth and the road to salvation of the present day Eve Dallas whom we come to love so much

Most of the book takes place in Dallas, so we don't get to read much about her regular crew except Dr.Mira. But because Eve is what she is now, we feel the their presence with her. We know she can survive because of them. There is a touching scene with Galahad that almost made me cry.

This book is a MUST for fans

FAVORITE SERIES EVER!!!!!!!

Any additional comments?

I so thoroughly enjoy this series. I have all of the books and I am hooked. What could be better than a futuristic tough cop with a broken past she has, and still is conquering, and a man that worships the ground she walks on, without being a wimp. This series has it all, mystery, romance, action, drama, sci-fy and comedy. Nora Roberts, writing as J.D. Robb is a genius.

Eve Dallas Strikes Again

I really like the Eve Dallas series. I would never have expected to enjoy a futuristic detective novel, but J D Robb makes the conveniences of the future like ordering a Starbucks coffee every day. In this book, Eve returns to her past, at least in her mind, and in some fashion, reconciles what happened to her at age 6 with her life today. It helps that she has a millionaire husband who has enough money to satisfy her every desire, but that simply makes things easier for her, not more extravagant. She is not a spoiled rich wife, but a serious police detective accompanied by her somewhat serious side-kick, Peabody. This book is a good read with a great narrator.

The Best of the Best

Eve and Roark are the best at drama and full bodied entertainment! I love them too much. In addition to a real kick story-teller.

One of Dallas' best stories

I've read/listened to all 33 In Death books ... this by far was my favorite ... the story is a basic Dallas take down, but shows a very personal side of Dallas that isn't seen in any of the other storylines. There are flashes of her past in all the other stories, but this one really hits home for her.

I've been waiting for this particular plot twist! I only wish THAT element would have lasted longer.
