It was one of Eve Dallas’s earliest takedowns, back in her uniform days. A monster named Isaac McQueen had been abducting young victims and leaving them scarred in both mind and body. Thanks to Eve, he wound up where he belonged, removed from civilized society in Rikers. But he’s not behind bars anymore.

After his escape, McQueen has two things in mind. One is to take up where he left off, preying on the young and innocent - when necessary, with the help of a female partner all too willing to be manipulated and to aid and abet his crimes. His other goal: to get revenge on the woman who stopped him all those years ago, now a high-profile lieutenant in the NYPSD and married to one of the city’s richest men.

Commanding Eve’s attention with a chilling and brazen crime, McQueen sets off the chase - forcing Eve down a road marked with blood and tears, a road that eventually leads southwest to Dallas, Texas, the home Eve fled long ago. And each new twist brings her closer to the harrowing memory of when she wasn’t a hardened detective but a vulnerable girl just like McQueen’s innocent prey. As her husband, Roarke, tries to rescue her from the nightmares that claw at her mind, and her partner, Peabody, doggedly works to support her, Eve must confront - and call upon - the darkest parts of her own soul in order to survive.

Crack another case with Eve Dallas.

Interesting

This was an interesting book. Got it at the 2fir 1 sale. I thought I wasn’t going to like it with the futuristic references. It was a good book and a good thriller

Crimes

Such interesting and amazing books! Accidents and crimes that Police and first defenders are put into harms way that the most of us never know about or have any idea that they occur.

How does she do it?

Where does New York to Dallas rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It's another of the best in the Eve Dallas series, if I could say it was page turning I would but instead I will say that I couldn't turn it off. The stories are all good but this is one of the best.

What did you like best about this story?

It had intrigue, horror, suspense and got to answer some of the questions we have had about Eve (the main chararcter). Simply stunning story

What about Susan Ericksen’s performance did you like?

She is now and will always be Eve Dallas....I couldn't after so many books think of her as anyone else. She captures in my mind the true essence of the characters in the series and has made them her own so that they come alive in our imaginations as we listen. Brilliant.!

Any additional comments?

I am always amazed at how J D Robb can write such horror and suspense and then blend such stories together such as the bride series (as Nora Roberts) which are so joyous and loving - what a talent!!

New York To Dallas

This book was so intriguing that it was extremely difficult to stop listening. It was a fresh approach of the ongoing story line. It’s hard to believe that this book could be better than many of the others in this series. It leaves you wanting more and anxiously awaiting the next “In Death” book. The narrator is fantastic.

One of the best "In Death" books.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. It is a book which makes you want to stay with the characters and not stop finding out what is going to happen next.

What was one of the most memorable moments of New York to Dallas?

Too many good parts.

Which scene was your favorite?

Again, too many...

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, if I was able to.

Any additional comments?

I think the last scene was actually a weak one, but still very exciting. The whole book was an excellent story.

Dallas Not A Loner Anymore

Would you listen to New York to Dallas again? Why?

As always, J. D. Robb (Nora Roberts) shows the tension between Dallas and Roarke, as he lets her follow her mission and his desire to protect her. What I really love about this story is it shows just how far Dallas has grown as a person and a cop. In "Naked", she's a loner working all aspects of her cases on her own and with little or no life outside her job. In this one, Dallas is coordinating multi-agency tasksforces in 2 states. She is also coming to terms with other parts of her forgotten past and relying on both Roarke and Dr. Mirra to get her through the worst...something the earlier Dallas couldn't do. Dallas is maturing. You can see how she might become Chief of Police someday.

What other book might you compare New York to Dallas to and why?

The follow up book Celebrity in Death wraps up a few loose ends left over from this book. Thankless in Death and Concealed in Death are also good back to basic Dallas & Roarke stories.

What about Susan Ericksen’s performance did you like?

Ms. Ericksen's voice characterizations were excellent, as always. Where do you find all your voices?

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I wanted to listen to this book all in one sitting and I did.

Any additional comments?

This book represents a pivotal point in Dallas's development as a police officer and in dealing with her past. Also, the drama illustrates the tension Roarke faces everyday being married to an uber-cop.
