Publisher's summary

Everyone is always telling Stone Barrington that he’s too smart to be a cop, but it’s pure luck that places him on the streets in the dead of night, just in time to witness the horrifying incident that turns his life inside out. Suddenly he is on the front page of every New York newspaper and his life is hopelessly entwined in the increasingly shocking life (and perhaps death) of Sasha Nijinsky, the country’s hottest and most beautiful television anchorwoman.

No matter where he turns, the case is waiting for him, haunting his nights and turning his days into a living hell. Stone finds himself caught in a perilous web of unspeakable crimes, dangerous friends, and sexual depravity that has throughout it one common thread: Sasha.

Great

I started out of order, I’ve listened to probably 20 Stone Barrington books and love them. It was nice to hear how he started out.

There were a few good twists

But many of the subplots seemed contrived and unrealistic, Overall it was a good book but not a great one. Now that the main character has been developed, I look forward to reading the next one.

disappointed

Where does New York Dead rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Good book, but not as good as previous Lee Child. Jack Reacher was missing his incredible thinking process. I missed his ability to analyze events.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Predictable ending, but ok.

Have you listened to any of Richard Ferrone’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not listened to Richard Ferrone. I liked this performance.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No...it was easy to follow and didn't leave me guessing.

Elaine's late, Stone's life is about to change…

If you could sum up New York Dead in three words, what would they be?

"Everything will change" Stone's career will take a 180 degree turn, followed by his love life. Time for Stone to take stock, stand on his own two feet. Which would be easier if he hadn't been shot in one knee. While this isn't the best of the Barrington books it is enjoyable and is a must to understand Stone through out the series.

What other book might you compare New York Dead to and why?

A mix of Richard Diamondand Philo Vance. Stone's bright, witty but is still trying to figure himself out. He's part blue blood, hapless rogue and trouble always finds him. He's more P.I. than lawyer. All in all a wonderful mix.

Which character – as performed by Richard Ferrone – was your favorite?

He captures them all very well. He does justice to The Stone Barrington character.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

New York, It's a town that never really sleeps, full of energy, people and danger!

Any additional comments?

If you enjoy the old 40's P.I characters this series should make you feel right at home.
