Publisher's summary

Everyone is always telling Stone Barrington that he’s too smart to be a cop, but it’s pure luck that places him on the streets in the dead of night, just in time to witness the horrifying incident that turns his life inside out. Suddenly he is on the front page of every New York newspaper and his life is hopelessly entwined in the increasingly shocking life (and perhaps death) of Sasha Nijinsky, the country’s hottest and most beautiful television anchorwoman.

No matter where he turns, the case is waiting for him, haunting his nights and turning his days into a living hell. Stone finds himself caught in a perilous web of unspeakable crimes, dangerous friends, and sexual depravity that has throughout it one common thread: Sasha.

Up & Down Ride

Author seemed more interested in characters than the story. Also had problems with narator.

Narrator sounds 80 yrs old but main character is supposed to be in 30’s

Narrator voice does not fit age of character…ruined it for me. Best part of book was when he became an investigator. Ending was obvious from the beginning.

One of Stuart Woods best books.

This is the first Stone Barrington book, and one of SW's early books. His first books, maybe about 6-7 of them, were, in my opinion, the best books he wrote. The Stone books were always entertaining, even as they got to #45, but are not nearly as good as his first books. New York Dead is excellent!

Great story

What a great find. I love this character and storyline and can’t wait to see what adventures await in this series. The narrator did a good job as well.

the first of 30+ in the series, a great book

I like this whole series. I like to listen from the beginning but this and all of this series are great. There are a total of 3 narrators across the series. I prefer his current, Tony Roberts.
