Publisher's summary

Everyone is always telling Stone Barrington that he’s too smart to be a cop, but it’s pure luck that places him on the streets in the dead of night, just in time to witness the horrifying incident that turns his life inside out. Suddenly he is on the front page of every New York newspaper and his life is hopelessly entwined in the increasingly shocking life (and perhaps death) of Sasha Nijinsky, the country’s hottest and most beautiful television anchorwoman.

No matter where he turns, the case is waiting for him, haunting his nights and turning his days into a living hell. Stone finds himself caught in a perilous web of unspeakable crimes, dangerous friends, and sexual depravity that has throughout it one common thread: Sasha.

Great

I started out of order, I’ve listened to probably 20 Stone Barrington books and love them. It was nice to hear how he started out.

Too much sex and cursing.

The sex and cursing is gratuitous. The story line was interesting in and of itself.

Book 1 of Barrington series, good groundwork

I 've read several of Wood's Barrington series. this read gives the reader a good point of perspective for the succeeding books. Prefer the Tony Robert's narrations but this narration is not bad. Nuances of Stone and Dino 's relationship are delved into and this sets the stage for future works. Highly recommend this book.

The first Stone

I have listened to many of the Stone Barrington novels, but it was nice to hear the very first one of the series. Suspenseful & entertaining.

New York Dead

The introduction of a character is a tricky thing. This author caught my attention immediately. The twists and turns introduced the players and supporting cast neatly giving my husband and I lots of time to pick the story apart and choose "who dunit!"

good story but...

why do writers have to add so many detailed sex scenes to a decent story? this one was ruined by those.

Ferrone - The great narrator

I was very entertained with the story and the narration. A twist ending I didn't see coming, thus the 5 star rating

Narrator sucked

The narrator’s voice sounds like Igor from Frankenstein. Nasally, and downright creepy. I plan on listening to series and hope I don’t have to listen to him again. Just listened to Harry Bosch series, excellent readers
