Publisher's summary

All her life, Sara Gallagher has wondered about her birth parents. As an adopted child with two sisters who were born naturally to her parents, Sara did not have an ideal home life. The question of why she was given up for adoption has always haunted her. Finally, she is ready to take steps and to find closure. But some questions are better left unanswered.

After months of research, Sara locates her birth mother - only to be met with horror and rejection. Then she discovers the devastating truth: Her mother was the only victim ever to escape a killer who has been hunting women every summer for decades. But Sara soon realizes the only thing worse than finding out about her father is for him to find out about her. What if murder is in your blood?

Never Knowing is a complex and compelling portrayal of one woman’s quest to understand herself, her origins, and her family. That is, if she can survive....

SO MUCH POTENTIAL

Let me try to explain the heading:
The storyline was excellent!
Before I go any further I would like to express my admiration and respect for narrators, including Ms McDuffie.
I just don't feel like she was a good fit for this particular book! I'm not one to be completely persuaded by reviews one way or the other but after listening to this I do agree that
the narration could've been better!

Narrator is ruining this book

I'm less than halfway through with this listen, and it's so hard to keep going because the narrator is totally wrecking it for me. She's got a goofy voice and she reads as if she's telling a children's story. Ugh. I absolutely loved Chevy Stevens other book, "Still Missing," and I can really see now how the wrong narrator can kill a story's impact. If this narrator had also done the other book she would have sucked all the drama and suspense out of it, like she's doing to this one. And I don't know if her Canadian accent is real or a put on for the story, but it's only making the whole thing worse. My advice is to read it instead.

Awful narrator!

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would recommend this book to anybody, but not this audio version. I have read and listened to this book. I enjoyed it so much more when I read it, and I am a person who LOVES audiobooks.

What didn’t you like about Carrington MacDuffie’s performance?

Ms. MacDuffie sounded a lot older than the character. Her voice didn't fit the story.

Pretty Good, not her best work though!!!!!

This was an okay book. It's worth a credit. I didn't enjoy this as much as I did Chevy Stevens other books. This book was slow and lagged at times and the narrator was okay. I've listened to every Chevy Stevens books that is available on audible. I enjoy the twists at the end. I wish that there were more books available. As I said before it's a decent book and worth the credit. What have you got to lose? If you don't like it you can always return it.

It was okay?

So, I read Still Missing a while back and found it prolific! I was hoping for more of the same with Never Knowing, but the plot was a little shaky and the story felt empty at times.

A lot of this book was good, and it raised some questions, but it also had a hard time tying up loose ends.

Good Story, annoying narrator

I really enjoyed the story bit the narrator made the characters seem so irritating! her voice for Ally was the worst but overall, she made everyone just seem dim witted and weird.

Good Book...Bad Reader

Where does Never Knowing rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I fell in love with Chevy Stevens' first book "Still Missing," so I was SO excited about listening to "Never Knowing." However, the listening of "Never Knowing" cannot compare to "Still Missing." Although the story is great, the reader is not. She is dry, unrealistic, and bland! However, because of the story line I cotinued to listen.Ms. Stevens should not use the reader of "Never Knowing" again becasue it was terrible.

How could the performance have been better?

The performance of "Never Knowing" could be better if the narrator that was used in "Still Missing" was the narrator for it.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I would not be able to because the narration is so bad.

Enjoyable

No one is all good or all bad. Beware those who appear so. A good travel listen.
