Publisher's summary

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE • THE BLOCKBUSTER JACK REACHER SERIES THAT INSPIRED THE STREAMING SERIES REACHER

Never Go Back is a novel of action-charged suspense starring “one of the best thriller characters at work today” (Newsweek).

Former military cop Jack Reacher makes it all the way from snowbound South Dakota to his destination in northeastern Virginia, near Washington, D.C.: the headquarters of his old unit, the 110th MP. The old stone building is the closest thing to a home he ever had.

Reacher is there to meet—in person—the new commanding officer, Major Susan Turner, so far just a warm, intriguing voice on the phone.

But it isn’t Turner behind the CO’s desk. And Reacher is hit with two pieces of shocking news, one with serious criminal consequences, and one too personal to even think about.

When threatened, you can run or fight.

Reacher fights, aiming to find Turner and clear his name, barely a step ahead of the army, and the FBI, and the D.C. Metro police, and four unidentified thugs.

Combining an intricate puzzle of a plot and an exciting chase for truth and justice, Lee Child puts Reacher through his paces—and makes him question who he is, what he’s done, and the very future of his untethered life on the open road.

Critic reviews

"Child is a superb craftsman of suspense." (Entertainment Weekly)

“A breathless cross-country spree . . . some of the best, wiliest writing [Lee] Child has ever done . . . Child’s bodacious action hero, Jack Reacher, has already tramped through 17 novels and three e-book singles. But his latest, Never Go Back, may be the best desert island reading in the series. It’s exceptionally well plotted. And full of wild surprises. And wise about Reacher’s peculiar nature. And positively Bunyanesque in its admiring contributions to Reacher lore.” (Janet Maslin, The New York Times)

“An adrenaline-charged, action-packed thriller . . . impossible to put down.” (Lansing State Journal)

Classic Reacher

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend the audiobook. It has a plausible story line and enough hook to keep you wanting to continue.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Never Go Back?

I loved the interaction with the Samantha Dayton character. I thought it was really funny that one of the bad guys in the book is named David Baldacci.

If you haven't listen to the Jack Reacher novels..

Listen to this one. Lee Child's stories are meant for Dick Hill to narrate. This story is even better than the last one. This series is one I won't stop following.

However, as a mom and a family person, I felt so sad that Jack moved on from this partner. I hope, at some point in the future, Lee provides Jack with a feeling of attachment, a resting place for such a great character, where he doesn't have to fight and defend any more. Jack Reacher, come home.

Kick a** and take names later is back!

I look forward to every Reacher book. This book delivered in the way Reacher does things best, clear and decisive. This book had me all the way to the end, which I thought was a little weak. I wanted Reacher to make heads roll. Dick Hill once again delivers a great performance.

As creatively written as all the Reacher novels.

I enjoyed this one and only learned the twist late on. 👍 Dick Hill is great as always.

Have read them all.............

What made the experience of listening to Never Go Back the most enjoyable?

Any Reacher book is a good read. Too bad they casted a midget to portray him in the movie.

What did you like best about this story?

Reacher logic.............

What about Dick Hill’s performance did you like?

The performance was excellent as usual for Dick Hill.

Glad I didn't skip this one.

I started the series with Killing Floor and I'm using the reviews to determine if I want to skip any....and then go back when I reach the end. With that said, I figured I would contribute with a review in case anyone else is doing the same. I'm glad I didn't skip this one. It has a slightly different Reacher because he takes a lot of advice from his "partner" in this book. He shows compassion and is prepared to assume personal accountability for something he is accused of....nice guy stuff. But most importantly, he does an ample share of tuff guy arm breaking and head butts to those who have it coming. The ending is different but that's ok. All the stories wouldn't have the same ending if it were real life so I enjoyed this story. It was a good listen!
