Publisher's Summary

In utter disbelief, Miss Marple read the letter addressed to her from the recently deceased Mr. Rafiel...an acquaintance she had met briefly on her travels. He had left instructions for her to investigate a crime after his death. The only problem was, he had failed to tell her who was involved or where and when the crime had been committed. It was most intriguing.

Soon she is faced with a new crime...the ultimate crime...murder. It seems someone is adamant that past evils remained buried....

    "Not Prime Time Miss Marple"
What could Agatha Christie have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

This was so drawn out, with endless repetition of the slim facts and clues of this almost non-existent mystery. Almost no story, but the characters, as always in Agatha Christie, are fun. Great narration by Emilia Fox !

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Very disappointing. The first Agatha Christie that I didn't enjoy.

    "Good story, good narration."

Consistently good author, one of my favorites. I guessed wrong "whodunit" but thankfully Miss Marple did not. Nicely narrated too.

"Excellent performance of a great Christie."

Excellent performance by Emilia Fox. Classic Christie murder mystery. I very much enjoyed listening. One of her better stories, I think.

    "A personal favorite."

Nemesis is my favorite Miss Marple, because it's particularly twisty and has the connection of another tale, A Caribbean Mystery's Jason Rafiel. The narrator is excellent and was actually in the Masterpiece episode of The Moving Finger. Excellent production.

    "I miss Joan Hickson"
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Emilia Fox?

I just can't listen to Emilia Fox narrating Miss Marple. After listening to the audiobooks that Joan Hickson narrated, as well as the radio plays, I could not get past Emilia Fox's performance. It's not often you get to be spoiled by having your personal, iconic Miss Marple acttress read the same stories, but we got lucky there, until now. EF cannot pull this off and it just ruined it for me. And the first instance of her doing a male voice, Mr. Rafael, is just grating, jarring, whatever you want to call it. That's when I hit pause and returned this book. Shame.

After catching an episode of Ms Marpel on PBS the other day. I deparately needed more if this wise old woman. This audiobook did not disappoint.
Agatha Christie has always been a favorite, and this series is so delightful to listen to.

"Emilia Fox's narration also a masterpiece!"

Absolutely riveting... such true representation of what an elderly person is peculiarly capable of seeing and understanding which would escape younger people.

"Miss Marple Solves a Cold Case - that isn't"
Would you listen to Nemesis again? Why?

Yes. I only buy audio books that I plan to listen to multiple times. This one was pretty well plotted, without the "hidden factors" that Christie sometimes relies upon. I enjoyed the fact that it involved a "solved" crime that had, in fact, not been solved at all.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Miss Marple is always a favorite character of mine. I love her mix of doddering little old lady and high mental acuity.

    Which scene was your favorite?

Miss Marple contemplating those white flowers in the garden, and her reaction to what they implied.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

    Not really.

    Any additional comments?

The reader had some obvious difficulty with the male voices, so they were occasionally distracting. Nonetheless, the book is a worthwhile "read".
