Publisher's summary

After a tumultuous year in which her mentor is murdered and her estranged father comes back into her life, Pia Grazdani, the embattled medical student from Death Benefit, decides to take a year off from her medical studies and escape New York City. Intrigued by the promise of the burgeoning field of medical technology and the chance to clear her head, Pia takes a job at Nano, LLC, a lavishly funded, security-conscious nanotechnology insititute in the picturesque foothills of the Rockies. Nano, LLC is ahead of the curve in the competitive world of molecular manufacturing, including the construction of microbivores, tiny nano-robots with the ability to gobble up viruses and bacteria.

But the corporate campus is a place of secrets. She's warned by her boss not to investigate the other work being done at the gigantic facility, nor to ask questions about the source of the seemingly endless capital that funds the institute's research. And when Pia encounters a fellow employee on a corporate jogging path, suffering the effects of a seizure, she soon realizes she may have literally stumbled upon Nano LLC's human guinea pigs. Is the tech giant on the cusp of one of the biggest medical discoveries of the 21st century - a treatment option for millions - or have they already sold out to the highest bidder?

Critic reviews

"Excellent…a perfect protagonist for a thriller - gutsy, tenacious, expert in the martial arts and willing to take risks to get to the bottom of a mystery. Nano is one of Cook’s best.” (Associated Press)

“The scientific details are fascinating.” (Booklist)

Not Cook's best, but worth the listen.

The tech medical wording was a little hard to follow, but the premise was interesting. Some of it will probably come to pass in the future.

Chinese Nano really bites!!

A perfect real life story of what China is doing to all its competitors especially the US!!
They steal everything they can't have, only buy what they can't steal, and and smile at you while they are bending you over!!!
I'll bet they r really laughing at the next US Presidential race!!

Not happy with the ending.

I love audible books. The performance was great but the end just ended. I hope there is another book on the way for the characters sake. There has been a lot of character development and now I feel like I know them.

Another excellent novel by Robin Cook

Story was fascinating and kept my interest throughout. I generally love Robin Cook and I was not disappointed this time. Would highly recommend anyone who likes medical mysteries/terror.

Not a very good story

I liked the first spinoff from the Jack Stapleton/Lori Montgomery Series but this one wasn't as well written. The Pia Grazdani character is well developed but she and her sort of sidekick George Wilson don't seem to have gelled as a team and this is Book 2. While I can handle an ending that leaves one in suspense, this book went a little too far.

What's up with this new formula?

Would you try another book from Robin Cook and/or George Guidall?

I've read all of Robin Cook's novels and was dissappointed with this product.

Any additional comments?

Robin Cook should remain true to his brand and formula. This books departure left me wanting and dissapointed at the end.

Implausible

The longer the book goes on, the more implausible the storyline becomes. The characters and their motivations just don't make sense. We're ultimatly expected to believe that the heartless CEO is so overcome by lust for the young scientist that it interferes with his business decisions.

The ending is abrupt and unsatisfying. It appears to be an opening for a sequel.
