THE FIRST NOVEL IN THE #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING IN DEATH SERIES

It is 2058, New York City. Technology now completely rules the world, but for New York Detective Eve Dallas, one irresistible impulse still rules the heart: passion...

Eve Dallas is a New York police lieutenant hunting for a ruthless killer. In over ten years on the force, she’s seen it all - and knows her survival depends on her instincts. And she’s going against every warning telling her not to get involved with Roarke, an Irish billionaire - and a suspect in Eve’s murder investigation. But passion and seduction have rules of their own, and it’s up to Eve to take a chance in the arms of a man she knows nothing about - except the addictive hunger of needing his touch.

Crack another case with Eve Dallas.

A pleasure to finally read Book #1

I started this series at book # 20. Most of the characters are all established at that point. It was refreshing to finally listen to book #1 and meet the characters afresh. Charles is introduced, as well as Nadine, Whitney, Roarke, Summerset, Feeny.
I liked Roarke's thoughtful jestures toward Eve. For example, sending her a bag of real coffee and fixing the heater in her car while they were heating up the bedroom with a marathon night of lovemaking. Eve is just the right balance of mystery, toughness, and understated femininity.
I'm going to continue the series and catch up to where I left off. That should fill in many gaps and flesh out all the characters.
Susan Ericksen is perfect to narate this series. She is tough but tender, strong and soft, smart but sensitive.
I guess you could say I'm hooked in death.

I Want More

Wow, this book is a real page-turner! But, more than that, there is a lot of character development. I would be hard-pressed to find things about this book that I don't like, so I won't invent any here.

I don't normally read books this short because they don't usually do a good job of developing the characters, and that is very important to me. But, we got plenty of that here. We also got lots of action, tension, romance, and sex. The writer did not try to sugar coat things or imply things. The writing was true to the central character.

The narration was very good! Not among the best I've heard, but certainly above most and added a lot to the listening experience.

I will definitely be getting the next book in this series!

Almost back

Glad to see a sharper Eve, she and Roake both had lost to much of their edge a little to soft. Hope this series goes on for years, every book has a new twist. Great read.

J. D. Robb at her best

One of the few books I re-read. Earlier book in the series. I think her writing was very passionate and there was nothing like it at the time. Riveting style of writing. Characters are likable. The description of one particular character was the hook for me. I adore everything about the character Roarke.

Great book.

Love how she has Eve Dallas a police lieutenant who was abused as a child and gets her involved with Roarke who is a suspect in a murder investigation. Can't wait to see what happens in the next book.
