THE FIRST NOVEL IN THE #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING IN DEATH SERIES

It is 2058, New York City. Technology now completely rules the world, but for New York Detective Eve Dallas, one irresistible impulse still rules the heart: passion...

Eve Dallas is a New York police lieutenant hunting for a ruthless killer. In over ten years on the force, she’s seen it all - and knows her survival depends on her instincts. And she’s going against every warning telling her not to get involved with Roarke, an Irish billionaire - and a suspect in Eve’s murder investigation. But passion and seduction have rules of their own, and it’s up to Eve to take a chance in the arms of a man she knows nothing about - except the addictive hunger of needing his touch.

Crack another case with Eve Dallas.

Start of an addiction

Would you listen to Naked in Death again? Why?

This is the first of the "In Death" series by J.D. Robb (aka Nora Roberts). This has the backstory that is needed to really appreciate all the other books to come.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Naked in Death?

When Eve sees Roarke for the first time.

Have you listened to any of Susan Ericksen’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Susan Ericksen is just fabulous. Even if I am reading a JD Robb book, I now hear her voices for the characters in my head.

Any additional comments?

Once you start this series you will want to read all of them.

Ugh. More romance than thriller

If I wanted a romance novel, I'd go find one. There's a decent murder mystery here (though not great) wrapped around a bad romance novel. If any man ever actually acted the way the male hero in this book does, he'd be locked up rather than laid. I've also never man an abused woman who really just needs a good f*** in the role of a submissive to get over it. Talk about cliches. No, IMO, this is a pulp romance novel thinly disguised as a detective story -- which probably explains why it's so popular. The disguise lets people pretend to like it for one thing, when they really want the other. A bit like claiming to read playboy for the articles.

Great in death series

Great story with a great reader who makes all the characters live and gives each one a voice. Love all the characters and the intermix between them. Keep them coming

One of the best series I have ever read!

This book was my first introduction to audio books at the beheast of my Mother for my long trips back and forth from college. At first I was like "ehh it is ok", I was a bit confused at the beginning because it is set in the future but quickly caught on, but by the end of the book, I couldn't stop listening. By the 3rd book I was completly hooked into the story of Eve Dallas. I am going through the entire series all over again, picking up on the littlest statements made in the early books that become bigger in later books. J.D. Robb has done an excelent job in creating a world that I still find that I want to visit and revisit again and again.

A pleasure to finally read Book #1

I started this series at book # 20. Most of the characters are all established at that point. It was refreshing to finally listen to book #1 and meet the characters afresh. Charles is introduced, as well as Nadine, Whitney, Roarke, Summerset, Feeny.
I liked Roarke's thoughtful jestures toward Eve. For example, sending her a bag of real coffee and fixing the heater in her car while they were heating up the bedroom with a marathon night of lovemaking. Eve is just the right balance of mystery, toughness, and understated femininity.
I'm going to continue the series and catch up to where I left off. That should fill in many gaps and flesh out all the characters.
Susan Ericksen is perfect to narate this series. She is tough but tender, strong and soft, smart but sensitive.
I guess you could say I'm hooked in death.

I Want More

Wow, this book is a real page-turner! But, more than that, there is a lot of character development. I would be hard-pressed to find things about this book that I don't like, so I won't invent any here.

I don't normally read books this short because they don't usually do a good job of developing the characters, and that is very important to me. But, we got plenty of that here. We also got lots of action, tension, romance, and sex. The writer did not try to sugar coat things or imply things. The writing was true to the central character.

The narration was very good! Not among the best I've heard, but certainly above most and added a lot to the listening experience.

I will definitely be getting the next book in this series!
