Publisher's summary

It's the start of Hollywood on Hudson, and New York City is swept up in the glamour. Every night, the red carpet rolls out for movie stars arriving at premieres in limos; the most exclusive restaurants close for private parties for wealthy producers and preeminent directors; and thousands of fans gather with the paparazzi, hoping to catch a glimpse of the most famous and beautiful faces in the world. With this many celebrities in town, special task force NYPD Red is on high alert - and they can't afford to make a single mistake.

Then a world-renowned producer fatally collapses at his power breakfast, and top NYPD Red Detective Zach Jordan is the first one on the scene. Zach works with his beautiful new partner, Detective Kylie MacDonald - who also happens to be his ex-girlfriend - to discover who the murderer might be. But this is only the beginning: the most brutal, public, and horrifyingly spectacular crimes they've ever encountered are about to send all of New York into chaos, putting NYPD Red on the ropes.

Zach and Kylie know there's no way of telling what a killer this deranged will do next. With the whole world watching, they have to find a way to stop a psychopath who has scripted his finale down to the last explosive detail. With larger-than-life action, relentless speed, and white-knuckle twists, NYPD Red is the next mega-blockbuster from "The Man Who Can't Miss." (TIME)

Contrived

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

We are John Patterson fans and we listen to books while we travel so sometimes we stick with a book just because we don't have anything else to do and this is one of those books. It felt like it was a book that was put together to make a buck. We were not at all disappointed when it ended. We were disappointed in John Patterson and this book.

Was NYPD Red worth the listening time?

It was if you are driving through west Texas with nothing else to do. But otherwise?-Not

once you start it you will not be able th stop

What did you love best about NYPD Red?

The twists and turns about the time you think you have the plot understood it adds a new turn.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

It did hold my interest . I found myself planing the time to hear a little mose of the book and then not wanting to put it down. When lisiting to a good book and when it is well read it is harder to put down than a paper book for me atleast.

What does Edoardo Ballerini and Jay Snyder bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

They allowed me to enjoy the book with out feeling guilty that I should be doing something elce instead of reeding.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

no

Hmmm . . . not sure

Would you try another book from James Patterson and Marshall Karp and/or Edoardo Ballerini and Jay Snyder ?

I think so.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Not sure when this was written - clever in areas, but seemed "old-style."

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Edoardo Ballerini and Jay Snyder ?

No idea. But, I do prefer women as they do a better job (in general) of mimicking both sexes.

Was NYPD Red worth the listening time?

Sure.

Any additional comments?

Interested in the next installment as I did enjoy the journey, but something was missing or off . . . can't put my finger on it.

Meh

If I had used a credit for this, I wouldn't have listened to the whole thing and would have traded it in. The story line is drawn out way too long. Too much description for action you know is coming because it's so overdone. The female cop is a rogue and no police department would put up with the crap she does. And did I say how much I really hate books where all the women characters are "Drop Dead Gorgeous" all the time?? I mean, talk about male testosterone on overdrive. Blech. Women are pretty a lot of the time, ordinary most of the time and gorgeous occasionally, but not all women by any stretch of the imagination. If you are a guy, you would probably enjoy this a lot more than I did. Thank god it's over and no I will not be wasting time or money on any of the sequels.

Patterson is washed up

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Does Patterson even write his own books anymore or are they all written by the collaborators? This book was cheesy and read like a B movie. It was over predictable and seemed like something I had already read/heard but with different characters. The characters had no character at all. Gone are the good old days of mystery and intrigue from Patterson novels of the past. I might continue with Cross books but no more Patterson.

Could you see NYPD Red being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

No. Too cheesy.

Another Patterson Winner

Extremely well-read...despite the necessary-in-written-form "he said and "she said"s! A pretty typical Patterson novel. You won't be disappointed.
