Publisher's summary

Kenneth Ewald has what it takes to win the presidency: the support of his party, a lovely wife, a dynamic campaign. What neither he nor any candidate needs is a corpse.

Ewald knows only one man capable of solving a crime, clearing his son, putting his campaign back on track and catching a killer: his best friend Mac Smith. Oddly enough, it was Mac and his dog Rufus who found the body in the first place.

Truman

This is a great story... there are others that I would love to download if and when available. Her insight into the art and political world is amazing- perhaps it has something to do with her family history! :->) Her work allows the mind to see each character and follow the story until the very end! Great writer....

Entertaining Story

I believe I may have read this book some years ago. It was first published in 1989. Even so, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the audio book. I listened to it while doing household chores. I listened to it as I went to sleep. (I love the "sleep timer" on the Kindle Fire!). I listened to it when I wanted to relax for a few minutes.
The book was written before computers and "smart" phones were as prevalent as they are today. I am old enough to remember that time, so the story didn't seem "dated", as it might to younger people.
Most times I listen to audio books for entertainment. I want main characters that are smart, and sensible, and have interesting lives. I don't want to read long, detailed accounts of violence. I enjoy a story that has unexpected plot twists. This book met all my "requirements".
I will be listening to more books in this series.

The reader ruined it

I love Margaret Truman and had read this book years ago. I wanted very much to listen to it but I could not get past the reader. He has a tooth whistle every time he says an "s" and it drove me up a wall. The producer droped the ball by leting him get by with it.

Touching on All Aspects of DC

This mystery is very time appropriate as the base of the story line is dealing with the preparation of the major political parties for a US Presidential election. This particular audio version of the book was our entertainment through 3-4 states while recently driving from New Jersey to Las Vegas. The excellent writing lends itself to a pleasurable audio rendition. Margaret Truman's Washington DC experience and knowledge comes through in her fictional characters that could easily be live people in today's DC political game. I am anxiously awaiting reading or listening to more adventures of Annabelle and Mac. Narrator Richard Poe is outstanding in his dialect for each character, there is no doubt which character is speaking. Highly recommend Margaret Truman books.

Really Good Book

Would you listen to Murder at the Kennedy Center again? Why?

YES, YES, YES. The book is so well written that everything seems to flow. Every word belongs. Margaret Truman's writing has no gender, it has well placed words that keep you on the edge. Please try this one. Superior.

Which character – as performed by Richard Poe – was your favorite?

Tony, his portrayal of the character was so, so on. I have never heard Richard Poe read before, he's quite good. Cool, deep, and throaty voice. So easy to listen too. This was great.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

A bit too long for one sitting, so I did it in two. Sat up in bed until the finish. So Good.

Any additional comments?

I sincerely hope that Audible.com finds a way to get more of the early books that actually follow this one. Books 1 through 8 and those that follow this one books 10 through 16. I personally would love to purchase these too. Habit forming reading.

Timeless Story!

Listening to the story in 2023 and amazed how much has not changed in DC. Great story. Needs a bit of time to develop, but well worth the investment.

Intriguing Inside Look at Politics

Wonderful book written by a Washington DC insider, Margaret Truman, with the help of Donald Bain. Even though it is a work of fiction, a lot of it could be ripped from the headlines of today's politics. This is an interesting mystery where nothing is as it seems. The narrator does a good job, too, which contributed to the enjoyment of the story.

A Contrived Story

A contrived story. I couldn't wait for it to be over. This is my first and last book by this author.
