Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Rita Mae Brown partners with her feline coauthor Sneaky Pie to give listeners a rollicking mystery in Murder at Monticello.

The citizens of quiet Crozet, Virginia, are about to have their small town turned upside down by a shocking discovery. After an archaeological dig reveals a skeleton under Thomas Jefferson's Monticello home, forgotten passions and bitter controversies are re-ignited. When a modern day killer adds another body to the already tangled web of deceit, suddenly there are two murders to solve - and Mary Minor "Harry" Haristeen goes hunting for the truth. Her friends Mrs.Murphy the tiger cat and Tee Tucker the corgi are on the hunt too - for a killer who's out to keep Harry quiet.

Solve another case with Mrs. Murphy.

Interesting, difficult to follow at times.

This recording jumped around, so you re-gear chapters. It says there are 26 chapters, but there were actually 68 or more.

history lesson and a murder

I loved this book. I have to listen to it again. there is and abundance of history concerning Thomas Jefferson and Sally Hemmings. The book kept me on my toes about who the murderer was. I'm still shocked.

Sunny

Stupid book. Trying to make T Jefferson into a good person. He kept his own children as slaves. No way to whitewash that. Couldn’t finish it

Interesting take on slavery

What would have made Murder at Monticello better?

This series is only OK. The characters are ok and the plots are worse. I was interested in what would happen to the characters as the books progress but I'm not going to read anymore since I found Ms. Brown comments on slavery to be disturbing.

Dissertation on Jefferson's life, weakly disguised as a mystery

I've read several of these books. I'm not expecting high literature but this was a poorly written book. The author wanders all over Jefferson's life to the detriment of telling her own story. In addition, there is a LOT of thinly disguised justifications for slavery - not just in the past but made by the present-day characters. All in all, one of the worst of the series. Kate Forbes, as usual, is an excellent narrator.
