Publisher's Summary

Seattle yoga instructor Kate Davidson often acts more like a champion fighting rooster than the Dalai Lama. When she's not teaching yoga, she spends her time hiding from her creepy landlord and dodging her best friend's relentless matchmaking attempts. Even though her father was a cop, Kate has zero crime fighting aspirations. She has enough trouble keeping her struggling yoga business afloat while trying to live up to yoga's Zen-like expectations.

Then she stumbles over a body in the studio's parking lot.

The police dismiss the murder as drug-related street crime, but Kate knows that George - a homeless alcoholic she had befriended-was no drug dealer. And if the police won't take his murder seriously, she'll just have to solve the crime herself. After all, "Drunk Dies in Drug Deal Gone Bad at Yoga Studio" isn't exactly the free publicity she's been hoping for.

Kate stretches herself and takes on two new challenges. First, solve George's murder. Second, find someone-anyone-willing to adopt his intimidating, horse-sized German shepherd, Bella, before Animal Control sends her to the big dog park in the sky.

But with Bella's time almost up and the murderer hot on her trail, Kate will have to work fast. Or the next time she practices Corpse Pose, it may be for real.

"It's about love, dogs, and murder!"

If you're a dog person you'll love Bella, if you're a yoga person you'll love Kate, and if you like cozies this one is well worth reading! The amateur sleuth is a bit of a bumbler, but gets the job done. Interesting characters and plot twists make this a fun read!
Anne James is just perfect as narrator!

    "Right up my alley!"
What made the experience of listening to Murder Strikes a Pose the most enjoyable?

The fact that it had a dog story line.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes. I really didn't know who had 'done it' as the book progressed because a few different unlikable characters were presented that could have been the murderer.

Also, I was routing for Bella the entire time but was nervous for her along the way as well.

Which character – as performed by Anne James – was your favorite?

Well, Bella, was my favorite, but I did enjoy the relationships between Kate and Michael and Kate and Renee.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, but just because of it's length. It was one though that I always looked forward to getting back to.

    Any additional comments?

Maybe a series in the making?

"A great start to the series"
What made the experience of listening to Murder Strikes a Pose the most enjoyable?

The plot was gently paced but I would have liked the investigative parts to be a little bit more exciting and suspenseful. There were a lot of phone calls and visiting people to talk to them- all very realistic but not very dramatic.
I wasn't expecting the story to focus on the dog more than the murder mystery but I still enjoyed it. I could relate to the owner's love for his dog and wanting to do everything he could for her. Growing up, my much loved King Charles Spaniel had EPI, just like Bella, and I empathised with that entire story line.

I am interested to see what mysteries the pair solve in the future and so this is one series that I will be happy to continue reading/listening to.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I preferred to listen to this book in a few sittings.

"Tracy weaves a tale of mystery and suspense."
What made the experience of listening to Murder Strikes a Pose the most enjoyable?

I liked the mystery to stimulate me and the yoga sessions to calm me.

What other book might you compare Murder Strikes a Pose to and why?

It reminded me of the Carrot Cake Mystery where you had the suspense broken up with the recipes for baking.

Which character – as performed by Anne James – was your favorite?

Kate was tenacious in trying to solve the mystery of her friend's murder and in finding a home for Bella.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

You got to get a glimpse into the life of a homeless person. It made you more sensitive to noticing them more and realize that they are not invisible.

    "Very Entertaining"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes I would recommend this audiobook to anyone looking for a good light mystery. This book is very entertaining. Great reader too!

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

This book has a bit of everything: A little romance, A lovely Landlady (although very ill),A sleazy Landlord, A homeless guy (but a really good guy), A best friend (but she is a pesky matchmaker), A handsome Pet Store owner, Bella (a huge black German Shepherd), A very suspicious Character (Charlie)...And, MURDER!

What about Anne James’s performance did you like?

    Wonderful performance! Loved this Reader.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed, cried, got angry, and at times was beside myself. Kate really took some very wild chances. I would be thinking..."NO! NO! ARE YOU CRAZY? Don't go off on your own with Charlie...In the woods...After dark!!" Then of course at the end...I cried...Not giving any more than that away.

    Any additional comments?

    "Nice Lite airy Mystery"

Well narrated, perfect length with a satisfying ending. My only critiques would be the hint of a soap box concerning special needs dogs and the thrill of Yoga. Oh, and there were a few times I wanted to shake the protagonist and yell, "Don't do that!!" All in all though Murder Strikes a Pose: A Downward Dog Mystery, left me with a smile...just what it was supposed to.

Murder Strikes a Pose: A Downward Dog Mystery
    : Tracy Weber

This is a cozy mystery that gives us humor, romance, a hit of suspense and even a dog, I think I may have read this before, but it wasn't on my read list. I enjoyed the story.

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed by Anne James.

Would you listen to Murder Strikes a Pose again? Why?

    Yes, see below
I rather enjoyed this audio version of a fun new series. I loved Bella and felt bad about her prognosis; I had a friend who's German Shepherd had the same disease (sadly both my friend and the dog have passed away). Kate was a bit irritating at the beginning but her character grew and was much more likable. I hated Kate's landlord's husband because he just felt so slimy with each interaction. The narrator is very good at her job because I could feel (Kate's dad's friend) John's frustrations with Katie for sticking her nose into the series business of murder. The story built up well and reached crescendo perfectly, the narrator made the words come to life with extreme skill. I think I'm gonna be trying more if both the Downward Dog mysteries and the narrator's works.
