Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Faye Kellerman's beloved Decker and Lazarus embark on a new life in upstate New York - and find themselves entangled in deception, intrigue, and murder in picturesque elite college town.

As a detective lieutenant with the LAPD, Peter Decker witnessed enough ugliness and chaos for a lifetime. Now, he and his devoted wife, Rina Lazarus, are ready to enjoy the quiet beauty of upstate New York, where they can be closer to their four adult children and their foster son.

But working for the Greenbury Police department isn't as fulfilling as Decker hoped. While Rina has adapted beautifully to their new surroundings, Decker is underwhelmed and frustrated by his new partner, Tyler McAdams, a former Harvard student and young buck with a bad 'tude. Just when he thinks he's made a mistake, Decker is called to his first real crime here - a possible break-in at the local cemetery.

At first, it seems like a false alarm until it's discovered that a mausoleum's stunning Tiffany panels have been replaced by forgeries. Then, a coed at one of the exclusive local colleges is brutally murdered. Poking into the hallowed halls of academia to find a killer, Decker and McAdams are drawn deep into a web of dark secrets, cold-case crimes, international intrigue, and ruthless people who kill for sport.

Suddenly, the job is anything but boring. This case just might be too much to handle and Decker will have to draw on every ounce of experience that he has garnered in the past 30 years as a homicide cop. And then again, even that might not be enough!

Not up to the usual standard.

Would you try another book from Faye Kellerman and/or Richard Ferrone?

I will try more books by Faye Kellerman because I like her characters and plots. However, this was the weakest of the long series. I will definitely avoid Richard Ferrone.

If you’ve listened to books by Faye Kellerman before, how does this one compare?

The worst one so far.

What didn’t you like about Richard Ferrone’s performance?

His performance was vastly inferior to that of Michael Greenberg, who has narrated the previous Kellerman novels. His voicing of Decker was downright annoying and it was hard to tell the characters apart.

Did Murder 101 inspire you to do anything?

No.

Any additional comments?

No.

love the Decker series

Faye Kellerman, knows how to bring the characters alive. I have read all the previous Decker books, first time listening on audio.
Each book is as good as the last!

Ending Dissatisfaction

Really enjoyed the character interaction.
I didn't like the narrator's Peter Decker voice. I kept hoping he'd clear his throat. I got used to it but didn't like it.
After all the speculation the ending was a real let down. Guess I wanted something more dramatic.

New Beginning

Rina and Decker begin a new life in upstate New York. Decker is in a smaller police department than LAPD. His partner is an irritating, but intelligent young man nicknamed Harvard. Decker and Harvard have two grisly murders to solve. They require extensive research into art. This is another winner.

A great read!

Would you listen to Murder 101 again? Why?

Yes! Best Decker yet, suspense builds throughout - and including Rina really worked.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Murder 101?

When the intruder broke into their home.

What does Richard Ferrone bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Sounds exactly like the picture we have in our minds.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Family above all else

great story, great characters

Wasn't sure how I'd feel about Richard Ferrone as narrator - he is Lucas Davenport to me! However, after the first few minutes I completely forgot about the previous narrator and settled into the story.
I enjoyed the evolution of "Harvard", and revisiting Oliver and Marge. The details of the art got to be a little intense, but overall I would recommend this book to anyone who has enjoyed the series, might be a little much for someone new to the characters.

A terrific audiobook!

Would you listen to Murder 101 again? Why?

I always repeat my favorite audiobooks after a period of time.

What other book might you compare Murder 101 to and why?

Any of the PREY series about Lucas Davenport. I have them all, and I have repeated listening to them from time to time. They have all been read by Richard Ferrone.

What does Richard Ferrone bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He delivers the story with great suspense and drama. He is my favorite narrator. I listen to this book from my tablet. At night I will set the sleep timer and I often extend the timer since I am so involved in the story that my adrenaline keeps me awake. With other narrators, I will be lulled to sleep before the timer shuts off.
I get very drowsy any time I read a novel.. It is much more enjoyable for me to listen to an audiobook.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

I can't comment on this since I am not a big fan of movies.

Any additional comments?

I have only on two other occasions listened to a Peter Decker mystery. I enjoyed the story, but the narrator didn't impress me. If Richard Ferrone is the narrator, I will choose it without question.

One of the very best in series! Change in narrator was a shock and it took the first 10-15 chapters to accept his voice style.

This book had one of the very best storylines of any in the series. Love the new character of Tyler and Rina’s Involvement in the case, as a story unfolded. The action was packed and I even missed lunch and dinner to finish(I would’ve had to prepare it) !! THAT’S saying a lot, for me.

Well written detective story

Enjoyed this book with the exception of the next to the last chapter. It made the rest of the story rather shabby.
