Mrs. Pollifax to the Rescue!

Once again, Emily Pollifax has a simple mission for Carstairs, just a simple addition to her planned vacation to Thailand with her husband Cyrus Reed. But things go wrong immediately when Cyrus is abducted, and Mrs. P goes after him. Many interesting twists in this adventure, and new friends made, as well as old friends found.

I've Discovered Mrs. Polifax!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Of course! So entertaining, never dull ( to me anyway) Mrs. Polifax is a few years younger than I am and I love her get up and go..

What other book might you compare Mrs. Pollifax and the Golden Triangle to and why?

I would compare it to the 6 other Mrs. Polifax books I have read this month. I know the author started writing this wonderful stories in the late sixties, a time period I can indentify with. I even bought 3 extra credits so I can continue reading Dorothy Gilman's books.

Have you listened to any of Barbara Rosenblat’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

They are all good and very entertaining!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

YES!

Any additional comments?

Barbara Rosenblat is an excellent reader. I have put other series she has narrated in my wish list.

Mrs Holliday and the golden triangle

I first read the Mrs pollifax books in the 70s, and was surprised to see the influence they have had on my life. I am 80 years old and traveled a lot. I'm sure Mrs P and the travels have made me what I am today.

Great series

Where does Mrs. Pollifax and the Golden Triangle rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Absolutely loved this whole series. Narration was great except for the last book in the series. Loved the locations and the detailed description about the people, customs, and traditions. Mrs. Pollifax character was a delight and loved her. Listened to the series twice through I enjoyed it so much. The narrator was so good, I can't imagine that reading the books would have been nearly as enjoyable.

Narrator sounds bored

I love the Mrs. Pollifax books, but I really don't like this narrator. She sounds so bored reading it. The plot is great, and I love the characters, but the narrator makes me feel like Mrs. Pollifax is a bump on a log. When I read the books, I find them so thrilling, but when I listen to them, I just feel like the narrator makes everything feel so tedious.

I also don't like that the author will occasionally use Jesus Christ's name in vain, like some kind of swear word. I really can't stand this...you would never use another religion's God as a swear word...so why is this most offensive thing done so casually with the name of the Savior? I returned this title...which is a shame, because like I said, it's a great story, and I love the characters, but these two gripes I have with the series has made me look elsewhere for entertainment.

Danger, betrayal, and a Buddhist

smuggling, murder, thailand, espionage, abduction, betrayal

This book was written in 1988, that makes it historical in nature without any research of the time.
If you never read any of the series or didn't catch it in the blurb, Mrs P is an over 60 widow who presented herself to the CIA in 1968 looking to be useful to them. She certainly has! She even met and married a retired judge and they had planned a vacation in Thailand when they were advised that another courier job needed doing in Thailand! Good tale, even going to people and places familiar to Dr Siri Paiboun. Enjoy the ride!

Voice actor Barbara Rosenblatt always does a wonderful job with all the voices and really acts out the story and not just read it. Her voice brings the characters to life with her inflections entirely suited the situations and characters.

Another lovely read

Dorothy Gillman continues to impress with her stories of Mrs. Pollifax. And Barbara Rosenblat's rendition of each character is superb. Her linguistic talent is amazing. One can hear each character speak and know who is speaking before the story confirms it just by Barbara's focus on tone, dialect, pitch, resonance. I won't take a trip without Mrs. Pollifax helping while away the miles!!

Whew!

Drugs and spies and government involvement, this book whisks us off to Thailand and the adjustments of a war torn, and yet to recover, area. This book, and the previous book in the series, are the most time identifiable books yet. Barbara Rosenblat is a fantastic narrator. Good for older kids and the rest of the family.

Fun Detour

What did you love best about Mrs. Pollifax and the Golden Triangle?

I really liked this detour into some other characters at Langley.

What other book might you compare Mrs. Pollifax and the Golden Triangle to and why?

This one is like the first in immediate change of plans, physical challenges and resourcefulness.

Any additional comments?

Ms. Gilman enjoys, more and more each book, the opportunity to explore another culture with her readers.
