Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Stuart Woods returns with another absorbing thriller.

President Will Lee is having a rough week. His vice president just died during surgery. Confirmation hearings for the new vice president are under way, but the squeaky-clean governor whom Will has nominated may have a few previously unnoticed skeletons in his closet. And Teddy Fay, the rogue CIA agent last seen in Shoot Him If He Runs, is plotting his revenge on CIA director Kate Rule Lee - the president's wife.

Plus there are some loose nukes in Pakistan that might just trigger World War III if Will's diplomatic efforts fall short. It's up to President Lee - with some help from Holly Barker, Lance Cabot, and a few other Stuart Woods series regulars - to save the world, and the upcoming election.

lousy narration

I am in total agreement with everyone else. The narrator is horrible and I am not even through the first chapter of the book. Total disappointment. For the first time I may have to actually get the book from the library

WORST ENDING EVER

I like the series and I read a review that this book was not that good with a horrible ending but I bought it anyway. I have to agree. Worst ending ever! I hate writing this but it's true

More "MOUNTING" than "FEAR"

What disappointed you about Mounting Fears?

Audible kids? Are you kidding. Plenty of sex, adult language and situations. Pretty disjointed. I didn't have a problem with the narration but then I adapt pretty easily to that. Don't know if I'd skip it altogether but it's just not as good as previous Woods stuff.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Kinda burnt out on Will Lee, probably get a military thriller or true crime listen.

What three words best describe Carrington MacDuffie’s performance?

Did just fine.
Some female narrators do well with male characters and some male narrators do well with female characters. My personal rule of thumb is whether it sounds "off", like is the reader trying too hard to get her voice low or gruff. I guess I'd have to say that for me, if most of the characters are male or if the character that talks the most is male, it's better if a guy is reading, and vice versa. I know I couldn't do a female voice to save my life.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Sure, some interesting side stories. I'm not a huge fan of Lee's politics, but I can muddle through. Some amusing parts. I didn't want to quit it altogether, just wished I had something a little better.

Any additional comments?

Not for young readers.

Mounting disappointment - Rate Zero

Worst of the author's efforts with no ending. He just gave up. All of this compounded by a terrible narration. Audible should provide a credit for this total dissappointment.

Narrartor stinks, story weak.

The narrator does not fit for a Stuart Woods Will Leeill land & Teddy Fay. The story seems to stretch out when it needs to end. It could have been saved with a more believable Narrator. Very hard to stay with the book.
