The Moonraker project has a millionaire backer, the war hero Sir Hugo Drax - a man who, it seems, cheats at cards. With a ballistic rocket at stake, Sir Hugo’s exposure could threaten Britain’s latest defence system, so James Bond is asked to investigate. Moving from London’s most exclusive gambling club to a missile silo on the Channel coast, 007 and his Special Branch assistant, Gala Brand, discover there’s more to Drax than meets the eye.
Includes an exclusive bonus interview with Bill Nighy.

Hi I am a geologist that now lives in South Australia I work in remote locations and find audiobooks essential for my sanity.
This is a superb presentation by Bill Nighy of this classic early James Bond tale. The story itself is rather comically dated in terms values and culture we are after all a long way from the early 1960's. However in terms of a ripping yarn superbly presented you really couldn't go much better than this. Bill Nighy covers all the characters superbly, giving each one life without ever entering into parody. I look forward to investigating others in this series, all read by experienced actors which make such works a pleasure.
Classics, history, historical fiction, marketing, Napoleonic stuff and of course 'Boys own Adventure'. This is my bent. Occasional self help as well.
Realistic boys own adventure where JB doesn't always gets who he wants but saves the day. A fun listen even though Bill Nighy is a little different to the other narrators. Come to think of it, should super spies play Bridge?
"Think you know the story? You don't!"
A truly unexpected great book. The reading is superb. This was my first Ian Fleming book and it won't be my last, so so much better than the film.
These audiobooks are reinventing James Bond for me. The Bond in the books is a richer deeper a wholly more serious individual. The story is written so well one can listen to it several times and it is still entertaining.
"Moonraker the book is so much better than the film"
Best bond book. The moonraker book is more interesting than the film, with more intrigue and twist . When listening to Bill Nighy read this book, at first I thought his voice sounded a little too rural for bond but I got use to it .i enjoyed this book very much.
My favourite character was Hugo Drax he seamed so ebullient ,an outrages and full of life.who turnout to be a nazi who hated the British and all they stand for
At first I thought his voice was to rural for Bond, but I soon got use to it and he read the book well
Sir Hugo Drax Britain saviour and protector , OR IS HE
"Bill Nighy narrates Bond perfectly."
Perhaps my favourite, due to narration.
Best Audible Bond adaptation I have listened to. Gripping from start to finish.
"Classic Flemming by Classic Nighy"
Bill Nighy is a wonderful narrator and his accent suits Flemming's words perfectly. As a classic Bond story from 1954 Nighy is excellent at keeping the listener engaged.
"My favourite Bond book"
What a superb audiobook. Brilliant story, great writing and a great narrator.
I have listened to all the James Bond books on audible and have reviewed each separately, but Moonraker is undoubtedly my favourite. The momentum is unstoppable, and the way the bridge game between Drax - the villain - and Bond is described and narrated is one of the most spell binding there is.
I thought Bill Nighy's style might be too laid back for James Bond, but not so. He is faultless as is his judgement of pace and the way the tension is racked up. The book adapts so well to audio and with a a narrator like this, well it reminds me why I like listening to audiobooks so much.
"What a turn up for the books!"
This is a fantastic edition wonderfully read by Bill Nighy. His narrative really enhances the story.
Any of the other Bond novels.
His style of delivery and interpretation was superb. I was itching to listen to the next part.
Forget the movie, watch the real deal.
Forget the movie, this book is so much better and believable than the movie. The story is gripping and the novel James Bond is more realistic and you can see where Daniel Craig took his interpretation of his character from.
"Excellent book, exciting finale"
This was the first James Bond book which I ever read and this was in the early sixties before he became a film star. The action is a little dated now and the winnings at the bridge table are by today's standards healthy but in the time the book was written it was an absolute fortune, about 10 year's salary. The book still makes good reading and allows for lots of nostalgia.
"Shaken and stirred!"
I'm really enjoying this series of the original Bonds, I haven't experienced any of the audio issues mentioned in the other review and I think Bill Nighy does a great job.
"Poor quality ."
Very poor quality download, persistent echo, and slow speech. I'm trying the enhanced version now, but not usually a problem with the normal version.
