Soon, however, the "affair of honor" takes on a somewhat more serious tone as Bond finds out the bizarre and terrifying truth about Drax and Moonraker, a truth that could not only prove fatal for Agent 007 and his beautiful companion, but could mean the deaths of millions.

"Fleming is splendid; he stops at nothing." (New Statesman)
"At the first words of this production, listeners can immediately imagine every James Bond movie they ever saw. [Simon Vance] sounds like all the characters rolled into one." (AudioFile)
Moonraker took my
least favorite Bond movie and showed me what a mistake it was by the producers to not follow this amazing story. The book is a wonderfully refreshing change of pace for 007 fans! Your allowed to see the world of James Bonds business life from inside MI6 in a way that makes you realize that secret agents are not always going on exotic adventures, one right after the other! However I found the office part to be interesting and not boring at all. Don't expect a trip to outer space in this book!
Near the top, given the great story telling of Ian Fleming
Great character development
He sounds like James himself.
It has been a movie, read the book for more grit and less camp.
I live and work in Milwaukee Wisconsin and work as an Account Executive for Aramark Uniform Services.
Yes. Every person should listen to all of the James Bond books in consecutive order.
James Bond is cool. Doctor Who cool.
A British accent.
I would listen to it again, but I doubt I'll ever find the time. I think I'll remember it for a long time, though.
Bond is obviously my favorite character. He's not the super-spy of the movies, but still an admirable protagonist.
Vance is a good reader. His performance of Hugo Drax was probably my favorite one.
I would have preferred to listen to it in one sitting, but that's just not how my life works. It did keep me company on some in-state road trips, though.
I have absolutely no interest in card games of any kind, and I don't know how to play poker, bridge or any of that. So Moonraker, like Casino Royale, really shows Fleming's mastery of tension and conflict because, during the card playing scene I was riveted.
I remember enjoying the movie, but from what I remember of it there is little resemblance to this book. This is about a pre-Sputnik nuclear missile for Britain's defense. The movie was about a space shuttle (?) with a crazy space combat scene (loved it!). Besides that and the names of the principle characters, I don't think there are any similarities.
The action-oriented espionage classics by Ian Fleming are always an enjoyable read, or in this case, listen. The audio is great, and the narrator's voice and accent create an enthralling, believable production of the literature.
Good book, much different than the movie. Someone should do a movie that's true to the book instead of the ridiculous, unwatchable, special effects extravaganzas Bond movies always end up being.
Simon Vance's performance of this book leaves nothing to be desired - each character sounds different and the story flows perfectly from him. The story itself is very well written - the post WWII England setting makes for a believable plot and the fact that Bond isn't a superhuman guy who always gets everything right on the first try makes him a believable character. Bond fans will love this one.
I am a 30 year old over-the-road truck driver. I listen to A LOT of audiobooks!
I swear, Ian Fleming cannot write a bad book! This is not my favorite of the 007 novels but it is very good. I have never seen the movie Moonraker, but if it is half as good as the book, I will really love it. TOTALLY worth a listen!
Yes, I would recommend this audiobook to a friend. Moonraker is a great story by Ian Fleming!
The subtle and poignant story telling of Ian Fleming comes alive in the book. Descriptive narrative is succinct, yet I can vividly imagine every scene.
Simon Vance is tremendous! His performance gets better with every Bond book!
